OT: 6 years ago tomorrow........

marks the day when I put a call into Karen, QofS, to give her information to pass along to the group.....5 pounds, 9.8 ounces, etc. etc. etc. Can you believe it's been that long??!!??

My early bird will be turning 6 tomorrow and we will be having the family dinner/cake event tomorrow night. Saturday will (we hope) be the friend party, though I've only heard from 2 children - 1 said yes,

1 said no......lovely how people rsvp down here....please, people, don't complain about the lack of manners of today's youth if you aren't going to be responsible for teaching them in the first place!!! It is not the school's job to teach manners, it's the job of the parents. If they don't see you responding to invitations with either a positive or negative, they will not know that they are supposed to do it....argh

Regardless, she will be having a LIttlest Pet Shop cake, ice cream, a surprise visit from one of her grandparents, with other grandparents coming up next weekend and a phone call from still other grandparents (hubby and I come from "broken homes", with some of the parents getting married again. So, she should have fun and sugar shock .....will be fun all around.

She has an appointment for her yearly pictures tomorrow morning, and that's all on the schedule, so hopefully it will be a nice relaxing day...she also chose the dinner menu: chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and crescent rolls....carb city!

Ok, just wanted to share......

That's a precious dear memory that she will cherish forever. When I was growing up the supper was: ham steak, mashed potatoes, new green peas and my cake? 3 layers: top one pink, middle white and the bottom a lovely (?) blue - the icing? milk chocolate. Mama's been gone a long, too long time but I still do my favorites just for me. Your little girl may not remember everything from growing up but trust me, she will remember the special things you do for her birthdays. Polly

Happy Birthday to your baby Larisa. It always seems that kiddos grow so fast. DD here turns 25 Sunday and she shares that bd with her auntie that will turn 56. I guess it is bd season. DS here doing things at work I can't even talk about and dd just moved into the house she bought all on her own. Many days I wonder what happenen to my little kiddos. Yes, dear friend. I saw the 'Polly Esther'. I've signed that for so long that too often I think it's me. Should I bring this up with my 12-step program group? Polly

Yup! How time flies! Happy birthday, little sweetheart!

James chose Nigella's Chocolate Log, and for dinner on Wednesday (because that's when I almost had time to cook something a little special), he wanted pork chops in devilled sauce. With rice and vegetables.

with regards to special meals....you are SO right when you say those are the things you remember. "My" meal was my grandmother's roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, and gallons of tea (Lipton, I think). That was what I asked for every year, and every year we were at her house near my birthday, that's what I got.....still haven't figure out how to duplicate the roast beef, and nobody but me likes cooked carrots....but yeah, definitely a good memory.....can't remember presents or any parties, but can remember the food...lol

Larisa, frazzled because a) the power went out sometime in the night, making DH late for work and ruining my plans for sleeping in, b) took kiddos out for breakfast since we had no power and they were a complete embarrassment to me, and c) have to go get DD changed into the outfit she chose for her pictures, but she's now changing her mind for the 20th time...oh, and did I mention my mother was supposed to be here today and I have to clean the house?? Just point me towards the chocolate cake and nobody will get hurt

I remember things like that... And making rhubarb pies in the Rayburn at Granny's, stirring scrambled eggs on the Ideal Boiler as my first proper cooking at home, and one or two culinary fails... When we were going to be out all day and need something hot fast when we got in, my granny would do fish custard... Typical Victorian nursery food, a savory set custard with white fish in it, gently and delicately cooked to perfection in the bottom of the Rayburn while we were out all day. We understood perfectly why she did this, that it was easy to eat when you are six and tired and over excited after a day out, but we regarded it as a pennance. It was the payment for having a good time! And it wasn't nasty, just bland and boring. We all have fond memories of those days out, but not a single one of us has ever atempted to reproduce it, and the one time my mother suggested it, she almost had a riot on her hands. Definitely a mutiny! ;P

In the Outside Fridge, on top of the yoghurt... Yup, up there on the left!

Mr Joe celebrates his 62nd on the 25. Neat reminder that it's 2 months til Christmas. This year he will get flags for the flagpole. For the first time in years--the flagpole is empty.

Butterfly (it's been windy here)
