OT a culture question

I was checking today to see what the baby gifts needs were and they were asking for burial wraps in dark blue or dark green. That's puzzling me. Usually, making burial things for babies who were born too soon is so heart-squeezing that I can't do it. Sometimes I can but I stay with white, ivory, soft beige or a gentle pink or blue. Can any of you educate me on a dark blue or green request? Polly

Maybe it is a family color, like in a tartan?

I did these for several years with my guild (and before my stroke last year, I did them on my own here). Darker colors were always really popular - more so than what we'd consider "baby colors."

Back then, when I asked the same question about the darker colors, a Bereavement Counselor told me that families in mourning for their baby prefer them because (and here's where my explanation will probably go awry) the "baby colors" are too depressing because they're too cheerful. It's not a time to be cheerful. Its a time to mourn. :/

For whatever it's worth, not all familes prefer the darker colors. Its just a matter of preference. I did oodles of light colored IDQs (we called them Infant Demise Quilts). But since a lot of families did have that preference, I'd slip in a couple of dark colored IDQs with every few light colored ones. I had a hard time doing the dark colors, too, FWIW.
