OT - Alert Radio

Been up all night because of the weather here in Mississippi.

Several months ago I purchased an All Hazards Alert Radio made by Midland. The cost was under 30 dollars.

I hate it when this thing goes off because of the loud alarm. I have it sitting in the dining room and can hear it in my bedroom.

BUT...... I love it because I am alerted to flood waters, tornadoes, severe thunder storms and even if there is a hazardous chemical spill in my area.

It operates by electric or batteries. It also operates like a regular alarm clock.

I am not affiliated with the company in any way. Just thought some of you would like to know this radio is out there and does a great job.

Here we go again... tornado watch alert.

Where does it get the warnings? Is there a government Panic of the Day radio station in the US?

National Weather Service.... for one.

And Emergency Broadcast System for another. Not sure what there might be locally.

Hi Kate! After the tornadoes that ripped through Florida just over a year ago, we bought a NOAA weather radio. We do keep it in the bedroom and it does occasionally wake me up, but I'm so glad to have that early warning available if we need it. The only thing that bugs me is that it goes off when the alert time is over too.... waking me up again! Small price to pay, I suppose ;-)

My goodness, Kate -- not again! I sure hope you're all safe and that it was a false alarm.

Howdy!

And they call it "No-ah" -- so punny, those weather nerds. This month's issue of The Professional Quilter has an article about "Preparing for Disaster", in particular "Save the Quilts!" (online version is free)

I didn't mind that it woke me up when the alert was over. That meant I could get out of the cramped downstairs closet, let the cats out of their cage, and go back to the comfy bed.

I haven't had need to move out of the bed yet. Usually it*deedledeedledeedles* to let me know something already evident, like the thunderstorm last night and the night before. When it wakes me and tells me about a tornado, I'll go get in the hallway...
