OT and not: coffee pot died

Later today I will be conducting a mini-remembrance for my coffee maker. It had one of those pause-and-pour mechanisms. Had is the operative word. It stopped working, and refused to allow the brewed coffee into the pot. Messy, very messy. Coffee recycling back into the resevoir, taking grounds with it. I air-dried it, cleaned it out, and had it all happen again. Granted this was not a real expensive coffee- maker, having it for 8 months, but criminy sakes! The springy-button thingamajig isn't made well.

This morning I dug out my little 4 cup coffee maker and made a min- pot. Probably better for me, right? Caffeine headache expected later today.

On topic: Seeing I will be by myself tomorrow, I get to sew to my heart's content. ;))) And pack. I move to another unit in here on

1/5.

Season's greetings to all, hugs and high-fives where appropriate Have a peace-filled/piece-filled day, Ginger in CA where it is very windy once again, high fire danger just posted

I am a coffee virgin, but the almost ex drank 5 to 10 pots of coffee- every day. We have a $15 coffee pot that has lasted longer than the marriage- 3.5 years and counting on the coffee pot. Do you want me to get the brand name for you? VBG The pause and fill still works, too, and the timer.

I have no idea how many coffee pots I've gone through. For a while I had one that I kept the springy-button pried open with a toothpick so it wouldn't over flow. The pause and pour feature didn't work, of course, but I learned to put my cup under it when I pulled out the pot and then filled the cup with the pot and quickly replaced. Barely a drop was spilled on the hot plate. Annoying, yes...but I got my coffee!!!

merry xmas, Ginger. we dont drink much coffee here and surely are not connissuers (i know that is the wrong spelling but cant be bothered checking it now, sorry). on the odd occasion we fancy real coffee we use our plunger. nothing on that to break down. no electrics at all to worry about. we have an electric jug we use to boil water for tea, coffee, whatever its needed for. common place here in nz, everyone has an electric jug. ya just put the coffee in the bottom of the plunger pot, pour the boiling water over the top, put the top of the plunger on but dont push it down yet, leave to brew for a few minutes, then push the plunger down to the bottom, leaving all the grounds under the fine mesh plunger. its all stainless steel as of this morning. we bought ourselves a new one for xmas. the last three were glass pots and someone would eventually break it. i expect this one to last out the rest of my lifetime at least. dont they use plungers in usa? i love it. tho you have to drink the coffee pretty much right away or figure a way to keep it hot. i like coffee fresh when i drink it. only one up at 7:35am xmas morning in the south pacific, j.

I know a good many people swear by their french press, and almost as many again swear at them. They are easy enough to use, but it seems that many people who get them have issues with grounds. I suspect they are useing too fine a grind in them. They are just too darn small for our household.

A few months back I replaced our pot, which died tragicly after several years service. The old cheapy we have as backup still works, I think it is because the coffee from it is so bad we get a new pot very quickly! (G) This time I did a bit of research and spent a little more for a Braun Impressions with a thermal carafe. 8 minutes to a full pot, and it turns itself off after another 8 minutes. It does pause and pour, it also doesn't have a hotplate. The thermal carafe really does work as advertised, so I am quite pleased. An added bonus that should have been a no brainer is Ash can't burn himself on the pot. The only downside is you can't just look at the pot to tell how much is left. A neutral point for me is the built in water filter. It has cartridges you have to change every three months or so. I wasn't excited about that function, but I expect if I get sick of buying the cartridges I can just put the plug that you put in the filter hole when cleaning the thing in full time. DH scoffs at the filter, but I think he likes it. This is a man who instists on unbleached filters when we have run pots that won't take a permenent filter, because he says he can taste a difference between bleached and unbleached filters.

Gosh I hope this isn't catching ;) I had this problem about a month ago then it seemd to clear up, but I just don't have the patience to put up with it anymore. My mini-pot brews and that's it, no timer, clock, or pause-n-pour.

I decided to start a new traditon. Tomorrow I am making my mother's tamale pie for dinner. It is a casserole dish, very simple. Sew, pack, tamale pie. Yep, suits me.

G> Hey, my coffee maker did sort of the same thing yesterday. It is upside
