OT: Anybody here on Long Island, near Belmont Racetrack?

I'm going to be traveling to the Belmont Stakes in 2004, and I want to start lining up accomodations now! I am looking for local's advice on where to stay. I want to be close to the shore, if possible, and I need to know if I need to get a car to get to the race, or if the public transportation will suffice. I'm willing to consider anything from a B&B to a fancy hotel type joint.

I want to avoid the City at all costs!

Any help out there? DH will be watching the race, I'll be taking along my handwork! ROFL

Hey Fiddy, I live on Long Island about 20 miles or so from the race track. There are several nice hotels in the area. DH and his business partner travel extensively and mostly stay at the Marriott hotels. There are several in the track area. If there is anything I can do to help, feel free to email me privately. I would love to meet up with you sometime while your here if you have the time. I'm not sure what the bus system route is in that area. Personally, if it were me, I would prefer to have a car so that I could explore other parts of the island when not at the track. If you did decide you want to go into the city, I would suggest taking the LIRR (Long Island RailRoad). It goes straight into Penn Station almost in the heart of the Garment District. Which means tons of fabric stores within blocks. I'll see what else I can find out for you and email you if that's ok. But still, feel free to email me.
