OT: Back home from vacation

Hi girls and boys! Had a wonderful vacation in Spain and Portugal. Walked our feet off around all those charming towns and hilly villages; cobblestones not withstanding . In a way the feet got a Dr Scholls type massage and recovery time overnight was swift. Fabulous food was searched out in tiny bars and cafes, eating with the locals. Full of atmosphere and engaging contact with the locals as I struggled to order in Spanish and then Portuguese. They thought my attempts were hilarious but they appreciated the effort . A particular highlight was a week staying on a spanish farm (finca) in the Sierra Aracenas north of Seville with friends of ours from Sydney doing a 5-6 hour walk each day along established tracks and paths through cork and olive groves, wildflowers. All meals were cooked with produce off the farm. A picnic tiffin provided each day for lunch. Home to lovely clear autumn days and today my twin sister is coming to stay for the weekend . Hope everyone is well and happy, Good to be back online again, Hugs Bronnie Oz

Sounds fun, where in Portugal did you go? I've not been there in almost 20 years, but have many memories from frequent visits in childhood off some of the main tourist beats. My grandparents spend

2-3 months a year there and my sister and cousin go regularly too, they jointly own the apartment that my grandparents bought around 30 years ago, apparently Portugese inheritance laws are complex, so they passed it on whilst they are still alive. I think someone in the family must still own a random field there as well, some change in the law means they can't do anything with it. Did you have chicken piri piri (or peri peri)? Love the stuff and a mountain restaurant in Portugal beats the chain restaurant that appeared in the UK hands down.

Cheers Anne

Welcome back, Bronnie! Your vacation sounds fabulous, and I can't wait to see what fantastic quilts result from it. :)

So good to see you Bronnie!

I'm really glad you had such a memorable time. I hope you took lots of pictures, so that you can re-live it whenever you want to.

I'd love to know whether we will be seeing quilts inspired by landscapes, Moorish influenced or Gaudi architecture. I don't suppose you have had time to think. A holiday like that just has to have stirred your creative juices in some direction, though. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Have some good rests now, and don't force the jet-lag! . In message , snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com writes

Thanks Amy. I picked up a bug on the last day of vacation (wouldn/t you know it?) and have a bout of laryngitus. Never had that before. I now in the midst of three days enforced silence. Quite funny. DH and I communicating via notes, signs and charades! Dr said it was the simplist and most effective cure. Unfortunately I won't be able to go to my quilt guild meeting tomorrow which I am more upset about. Unless I hang a sign around my neck saying yes, no and maybe . Hugs Bronnie
