I can't catch it as I already have it, I think. Upper quadrant grunge. Most unpleasant.

And I've already had it. Give yourself a full two weeks to get rid of it. I was well into the third week before it disappeared. Yuck. My condolences.

Yeah, I was a madwoman all right! But if it makes you feel any better, it took DH a week to shake it and he's NEVER sick!!! Make sure to get the tissues with lotion in them or you'll have your nose wiped right off your face.

Warning this may be 'gross to some of you as I'm getting detailed' here:

One of 2 ways; get a 'nose syringe'--looks like a baby bottle with a large-est hole in the screw on top; put it at the base of one nostril, hold the other closed and 'spray' the water in, once it's going in, remove your finger from the other one and let the gunk come out. Do NOT do this more than 3 times in 24 hours according to my allergist.

If you don't have one of those, then get a regular bulb base syringe like they used to clean out baby's nose, etc and use that, only you'll have to squeeze harder on the bulb part and you'll have to keep refilling. Just make sure you don't 'drip' into the clean water ((just in case you can't see straight)).

If you can't do that, then put a few drops of peppermint oil in a basin of HOT water and lean over it and put a towel over your head and steam your face for a bit. Just let it drip out. Fair warning: high humidity gives me a full blown asthma attack--I don't recall if you have asthma or not.

You can always take a TINY bit of horseradish and put it on bread and eat it. (I can't handle horseradish anymore)

Just remember to 'blow gently' as you do NOT want to burst your eardrum..and the juice of the aloe vera plant on your nose heals faster than any lotion you can put on..fair warning--it might turn the end of your nose kinda yellowgreen....sorry it isn't LIME green :)

The rest of you probably don't want to read this. Some years ago, I had a killer case of nose crazies. I looked up the irrigation thing and discovered honest-to-goodness help. A fellow in India detailed how to do it and he went quite a bit further than I would want to go including 'how to' on an airplane. Basically, you just get yourself a shallow cup of cold water, close one nostril and snuffle up the water in the other side a couple of times. Erk. I told you all not to read this. Then you just let it pour back out. Thence to the other side. Several times a day. You will want to lock the bathroom door and turn the radio on really loud. You probably won't drown. I didn't. This gross and messing flushing removes whatever pollen and irritants are homesteading. I was so desperate I would have tried sniffing rat poison. Anyhow - it worked! It truly, really worked. My family and friends would not take me out in public when I was going through my nose-flushing ordeal but it does make sense. No pun intended. Polly

You can buy mild saline sprays from the chemist that do this with a little less mess. They are an over-the-counter thing and at least you don't have to find a cup or bowl you can stick your face into.

My mom swears by the nose flush. She just uses salt water, at a fairly warm temperature, snorts it up and blows it out. She has been doing this for a long time now and she rarely has the Rudolph nose like the rest of us in the family gets....... I personally can NOT snort that water up my nose no matter HOW great it would make me feel....... ew.

During long dry spells dirt can become like extra fine dust and every little breeze stirs it up just a little, add the pollen from fall blooming things and it can wreak havoc with your nasal passages even if you are not allergic. Debra in VA See my quilts at

long dry here in auckland being so close to sea level and having a usually high level of rainfall thruout the year, everything stays pretty green. good grief, its nearly impossible to kill things here. they grow like topsy with nearly no attention at all cuz of all the rain we 'usually' get. as a result there is very little bare dirt round auckland itself.

that said, i suppose there must be some dirt around, along with autumn flowers....belladonna and protea in my garden is bout all i can see, lol, not checked the neighbours yards that closely yet tho...could be the problem. this afternoon i'm feeling better for sure. only the occasional nose blowing. the cough is not nearly as bad as yesterday tho still there under the surface waiting to annoy me for a bit off and on. its dry again today too, lovely breeze off the ocean. :) i've been stuck into trying to clean the door off the oven from our rental property. tenants left and i swear they never ever ever cleaned that oven in the 6 yrs there were there. took me two days of soaking and scrubbing to get the gunk off the rings round the top elements. i'm now trying to get the glass out of the window to clean inside the window. i can see gunk in there and the rubber? stuff that seals the glass has come off a bit and is hanging inside the window so theres dirt inside to clean out too but i'm having a devil of a time getting the screw to move. have got oil on it now in hopes. i've not even looked inside the oven in the house. i went in there one day to wash my hands and the smell around the kitchen is ewwwwwwwwww. we might end up having to have new carpet in the lounge/dining area. that might fix the smell. i guess i'll have to get stuck into the kitchen itself but not til dh finishes with repainting the window frames outside and the ceilings inside. he is midway thru that now. i'll also have the joy? of more pruning in the garden. then we'll have to get in one of those huge steel rubbish bins to take away all the garden stuff. theres gonna be a mess of it. i've already cut down one of the bigger bushes that was way out of control. oops, sorry bout this saga. i must be feeling better, eh. thanks for everyones concern at my trivial/petty nose irritaions. soon as the house is all cleaned up, repainted, recarpeted, new curtains, have some 'tree guys' come and remove at least one, maybe two huuuuge trees that are overgrown, the house is going on the market. should sell quickly as its on a bus route, short walk to good size local mall, near to both primary and intermediate schools and the bus line goes past the high school. i hope we can get it nice enough to get a decent price on it. we'll have to get an agent in to value it for us first. oops, there i go again. ttfn from autumn in the south pacific, jeanne

'tis easy. Do you want relief or do you just wanna stay miserable? Your choice. I can't make it for you. I did what the allergist told me to do I just know what has 'worked for me' and a few others in his office. Fortunately, I haven't had to do it since we moved from B'splat.

Coming down home stretch. Cabinet maker is to 'come see' on Fri, doors and trim are to be in...then the SM can be moved in. Going to have to put a few other things in there this weekend as the rest of the carpet is scheduled for Monday. There is a light on at the end of the tunnel and it is lit : )
