OT Diet coke vs vitamins/prescriptions

Howdy!

Jumped down your throat but didn't stay there long; there was more space in your head. ;-D

So, how's that Crazy quilt going? I bet some of that free advice we gave you about CQ is worth the price.

Unfortunately, I do.

There is a compound in tea called theobromine that binds iron, which makes your blood iron low.

Don't drink tea with your main iron source, ie meat.

On the other hand, if you are drinking a given quantity of tea and show no signs of anemia, stop worrying!

[why "unfortunately", do I hear you ask? when I was sent to the hematologist to check out why low iron, he found both the cause of that the tea-drinking, and that I have chronic leukemia.]

that's life.

Ohhhh Martha. Oh my. I wasn't expecting that kind of answer. A diagnosis of leukemia may not be as awful as it used to be - but still it's like getting hit in the face with a shovel. We have a college freshman fighting that battle now. He's doing just very well. Are you getting the best care you can find? Polly

Hi Martha,

Very sorry to hear that. Do you mean chronic lymphocytic leukemia?

Chalk it up to:

1: It hit my advocate nerve 2: My pain level, when I wrote that, was at about 8, part of which was a migraine. 3: For all the "don't believe what you hear on the internet" rhetoric, there's an awful lot of that kind of misinformation being propogated here, and it scares me a bit that someone may actually believe/act upon it and wind up in trouble. Please don't anyone feel insulted; I've actually seen it happen with disastrous results. If people really don't believe what they read in a newsgroup, why do they keep asking on newsgroups, and why do people keep repeating what they've seen, heard, or been told without citations?

If, as Polly admonishes, I should not feel people jumped on me for saying, "You get what you pay for," then please don't hold this against me. There were forces at work bringing my method into question - not my good intentions.

I had just posted a message about grapefruit and its juice. When I read that you had spoken about it, I deleted mine from my outbox. I take a BP med. that necessitates my never having anything to do with grapefruit. . In message , Dr. Zachary Smith writes

Hi Patti,

If people choose to either understand, or to get/stay ticked off at me, the message I would wish them to come away with from that post is:

Were all grown ups here and I try to take everything I read with a grain of salt. If I think it really has a bearing on my life/health I will do separate research to try and find the truth. I don't think anyone here is out to get anyone. We are just a varied group of people, we have differing thoughts and such. And we all know that what effects one person one way maybe totally different on someone else.

I don't think there is one person on here that hasn't felt hurt, step on or other wise slighted by something that was said on here. But I chose to believe that no one is really out to get me or hurt me and I let it go. My revenge in life is to let the nasties slip away.

I feel like I opened a can of worms. I apologize. What I wanted most of all was some ideas on how to research the topic. I know there are well-informed people on this group and ones who have had personal experience. Even the 'urban legends' and 'they say' were worth investigating. I didn't quite know how to find the right combination of words to search for answers. I got some great ideas and thoughts from y'all and found some info by using those words/combinations which I found in your replies. I appreciate all the help. Thanks!

I highly approve of independent research.

Even when I know I am right because I am a Leo and thus always right

*grin*, I would hope that people take the time to look stuff up on their own.

Awww, heck, Leslie. Go right ahead and open a can of worms any time you take the notion. I'm sure most of us enjoyed and learned heaps from this thread. However. Don't drink tea with the worms if they are your source of iron for the day. =) Polly

Interestingly none of the BP medications I have been on over the last 20 years have had any mention of grapefruit. DH has recently started taking cholestrol meds and isn't allowed grapefruit.

I think it's quite a new one, and it is specific to that chemical or group of chemicals. It is one of the 'idipines'. It is just the chemical, not the purpose. . In message , Dee in Oz writes

LOL! I was finished reading this thread, but the subject change definitely caught my attention. I was seriously thinking, "Gosh I thought tequila was the only beverage that had a worm in it."
