OT: Do Not Call list

I have been getting a spate of telephone calls soliciting me for work- at-home, credit cards, insurance, and even male-enhancement products. I have been on the national Do Not Call list since 2003 and have a non- pub phone, and none of the calls have been from anybody exempted from the prohibition. So -- I went to the official Do Not Call web site, confirmed that I am still on the list, and found a very nice little "report the bad guys" form to fill out and send! Now I am keeping notes about those calls (caller ID gives the numbers) and reporting them all to the feds. A pencil and scrap of paper by the phone is all it takes!

I don't recall the details since it was DW who took care of it, but we had been on the list since its inception, and learned by accident (I think we may also have begun getting calls again) that you have to re-register every so many years. Then we had to put up with it again for the 30- day (or however long it was) grace period again... It might be worth checking into.

PS - Every time we get a call from an "exemption", we still give 'em hell. "We didn't agree to or get any say in these exemptions, so as far as we're concerned, there AREN'T any! Why would we want to be bothered by you if we don't want to be bothered by anybody else?" etc., etc. We vowed to vote *against* any politicians/political calls, and they all stopped calling. We take all information about the "exemptions" just like any other violator, and assure them we'll vote against/not do business, or whatever other prtessure we can bring to bear. Funny, but it seems to be working.

Not True Doc. The do not call list does not expire. See

for more information. I think originally it was only supposed to be good for 5 years, but thankfully, that was changed a few years ago.

The last time I checked, the time limit on the federal do-not-call list had been suspended, eliminating the need to re-register. It might be worth checking.

I had been ignoring the calls or telling them that they are calling a "Do not call" recipient and they left with an apology. But lately started reporting. It seems these people ignore the list.

When callers were demanding to speak to Howard Esther and nothing would stop them, I bought a really violent Boy Scout whistle. Put it beside the phone. Practiced deep breathing so I could hit them with my best shot (so to speak). Heck. They never called again. Polly

True Pauline. It has changed. You don't have to re-register anymore

- the law/rule was changed, but we did have to once. We have the documentation on file.
