OT Good thoughts for QI please

Some good thoughts for my cat, Rocky, would be much appreciated over here. He was savaged by a neighbour's two staffordshire bull terriers yesterday :-( After a night at the vet he is now home and feeling very sorry for himself. To add insult to injury (and to make this on topic) the stitching on the hand piecing is all visible ;-)

Lizzy

PS wish me luck as I treat him orally with one liquid med and one set of tablets AND the three different eye drops! I might need stiching up by the end of the week.

Poor Rocky! Hope he heals up quickly. Medicating even the most docile of cats is tricky. IME it gets harder as the treatment progresses. They're "on" to all your tricks by then. Mine is also an expert at harking up the pill afer I think he's swallowed it. :-( Sherry

Oh, Lizzy, I do hope Rocky will be okay and will learn to tolerate being medicated without too much damage to his loving nurse! Poor guy!

Yikes! Poor Rocky! Poor Lizzy!

I don't know how much of a fighter Rocky is in regard to his meds, however, I once had a cat I needed to treat who wasn't the least bit cooperative, so I wrapped her in a big towel before attempting to give the meds. The towel protected me from her claws and made the process faster which I think was ultimately less traumatic for her.

Good thoughts heading your way. Michelle in NV

Hi Hope Rocky gets to feeling better!

My kitties have always worn sweatshirts while getting any kind of anything they don't like. It helps with not getting scratched and also looks kind of cute during those rough times.

poor poor Rocky. no one deserves such treatment. the tablets can be crushed between two matching spoons and when poured into his mouth he cant spit it out cuz it sticks to the moisture in his mouth so he can only eventually ingest the meds. this is how i gave my kids homeopathic remedys when too young to suck tablets properly. worked a treat for them. good luck with the eye drops, i have no help on those.

i do hope something has been done about those viscious dogs. they need to be kept locked up and/or on a leash. send the bill for the vet to the neighbour, his dogs are responsible so he should pay it.

healing thots on the way for Rocky and you. j.

Thank you for all the messages of support and advice.

Rocky is now a little bit perkier (can move around, is eating a bit and gets to the litterbox) and is being an absolute angel about the various meds. Doesn't even try to spit the pills out! When he starts objecting I'll know he's really on the mend. He is confined to his own room to keep the other cats away from him and his food and to give him much needed peace and quiet.

I put pics up on my flickr site, but be warned he is a mess :-(

I'm interested in knowing what the owner of the dogs has said or done about this whole thing! Regardless, sounds like Rocky is truly on the mend. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Where did it takes place? I don't remember seeing that in any of the posts but then, I very well could have missed some. I dearly love dogs

-- almost as much as I do cats but I just CAN NOT accept any dog "attacking" anything! VBS -- some pet owners should be flogged and then keel hauled for the stupidity they show in training and caring for their animals!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Poor Rocky! It appears that you have already gotten some very good advice about medicating the poor little critter and protecting yourself, but I'll add just a wee bit more.

As to his claws getting you, there are "claw shields" that can be glued over his claws to prevent scratching, and my friends have used them during the-cat-needs-medicine times. They are plastic, non- damaging, and available now at many vets' offices and pet shops.

About the neighbors. If the police are not helpful and the neighbors are not forthcoming to pay the vet bills (which they absolutely should pay!), your homeowners insurance should pay you and then go after the neighbors and their insurance, if any, for subrogation. Be sure to call your insurer NOW so they have a record of a possible claim, since when you delay the insurers often deny coverage. Also, call your local animal control office!

Best wishes to you and to Rocky . . .

Oh man, Lizzy! I know Rocky feels anything but lucky, but from looking at those pictures, I'm just glad he wasn't lunch.

Glad he is feeling a bit better, and being good about his meds. It's obviously going to take him awhile to mend. Still, hoping for a speedy recovery!

OMG, Lizzy, that poor little thing! How in the world did he ever get away from his attackers, as injured as he was?
