OT - Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my RCTQ friends!

I'm not cooking the turkey this year. We are heading into the city for turkey dinner at one of the daughter's houses this afternoon! I'm on desert detail. So for this year we have apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake, and sex in the pan. Should be varied enough that there will be something to appeal to everyone. It's been tough not to sample!

Hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend, whether it is Thanksgiving for you or not!

Okay, I just have to ask. What is sex in the pan?

GRIN... does get some attention with the name doesn't it?

Actually it is a cookie type crust topped with layers of vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, and a mixture of cream cheese, coolwhip and icing sugar. Topped with plain coolwhip and sprinkled chocolate shavings on top.

I wouldn't say it's better than sex, but would sure be right up there on my list of comfort foods!

Just so you know, I did not name this desert! Many years ago someone brought this concoction to a potluck, and was overwhelmed with requests for the recipe. Where it actually originated I have no idea. I don't think I would want it too often but every now and then some family member requests it, and it always goes over well.

Sounds like a cousin to Fat Man's Misery, which is a chocolate cookie crumb crust, spread over with buttercream frosting, layered over top with a whole lot of whipped cream or cool whip, and sprinkled with chocolate cookie crumbs or shaved chocolate or chocolate sprinkles.

Somewhere around here I have a recipe for Cookie Lover's Pizza. For that you roll out cookie dough and cut it in a pie pan sized circle, top with chopped caramels or mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, nuts, and then sprinkle with malt ovaltine or some other malted milk powder, and bake to bake the cookie.

I've got cooking on the brain right now because I am going to have somebody with celiac visiting for about a week and have to figure gluten free menus. I have one dinner party with a diabetic in attendance that same week, but pretty much have that meal sorted out.

pretty scrumptious, even if mine was only 3 layers, 'cause one of the layers cracked in half and I ended up tossing it out. gotta love Kraft Canada...great recipes and a FREE magazine in the mail every couple of months [only for Canucks, I think.]

Nightmist, IMO, you shouldn't have to fix anything different for the diabetic. I am diabetic and I don't expect people to cook differently for me. I take a gander at all that is on the table and figure out for myself what I can and cannot eat, well that should be should and should not eat. If the person is on fast acting insulin it should be even easier because they can "shoot" for their meal and figure the approximate number of carbs in the meal they plan to eat and shoot their insulin for that number. Diabetics can eat anything they just have to do so in moderation, which wouldn't hurt the entire population to do. I'm diabetic so I am included in the eat in moderation bit and I bet other's would agree.

Also, Happy Thanksgiv>

We here in the US get a magainze free from Kraft every two or three months and it has wonderful recipes. They also have a US website. I do admit the last time I went looking for the link to the free magazine I couldn't find it. I wanted to sign a friend of mine up to get it because she is always bumming mine.
