OT-Have you ever had this?

Last week I woke up with double vision. Went to the doctor and I have "6th nerve palsy". Evidently you have 7 cranial nerves and the 6th has to do with the movement of your eyes. Mine has gotten irritated or some such and the doctor says it will go away on its own in about a month! Meanwhile I'm wearing a patch and wrist bands for motion sickness. It's really miserable and aggravating! Each day I tell myself it's some better and I know it is because, I can see the computer screen well enough now. I even did some Christmas shopping tonight online. Have any of you had this experience? What did you do to make it better?

I do want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas! You all are the best group on the web! Michelle G.

Hi Michelle, I know exactly what you are talking about although my double vision was caused by the 6th being packed tightly after an operation I had. The patch is important in that it forces the eye to heal. I was also advised to exercise both eyes, especially the 'bung' eye. It took about 3 weeks for my sight to return to 'normal'.

The exercises I did were to look up and down and left to right with the good eye covered. I did these regularly during the day - I can't remember how many times, sorry.

Good luck, it will return.

So very sorry you're having such a time of it. I wear one contact lens for 'close up' and truly am grateful that I can. It's sort of like wearing bifocals sideways and for about the first three days I was as drunk and nauseated as could be. Wishing you perfect healing and soon. Polly

(((((((( Michele )))))))))) It sounds horrible. You poor baby. I'm glad the problem will heal, but what a mess. And right before Christmas.

So sorry Michelle! There are a couple of people in my family who get vertigo due to allergies, and interestingly enough, they also have trouble with eye focus when this hits. I'm wondering if their 6th cranial nerve is irritated too. (They have the full blown, can't walk type of dizziness too though.)

Anyway, whether it's exactly the same or not, I DO KNOW how miserable it is.

My grandpa had some good luck with OTC meclizine HCL for the feeling of motion sickness. Maybe it would help you?

Gentle hugs, Michelle in Nevada

I didn't have it diagnosed, but it does sound very much like what I experienced 10 years ago, for me it seemed like the first week was the worst then it was about a month to 6 weeks for full recovery.

Yuk! ((((((Michelle))))))

I had double vision and a very swimmy head as a result of a serious sinus infection. It's horrid! At least you know what has caused it and that it will go away. Take it easy while it heals!

Howdy!

While I'm sorry to hear about this dreadful eye malady, I'm encouraged to read that you're getting treatment, Michelle.

...am sending one parrot to sit on your shoulder. Arrrrrrrrgh!

getting old really sucks big time. i'm not all that sure it beats the alternative either. vitamin B6 is used for pregnancy morning sickness nausea. a multi vitamin with a high dose of multiple B vitamins or just a B6 might help in the long term. B vitamins are water soluble. the body doesnt store them like with oil soluble vits. need to take them daily. fwiw. j.
