OT: Holy Humor

My inbox held a message entitled Holy Humor this morning. There was one that I found particularly cute and had to share with all of you:

Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about.

The daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilt."

Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about.

He said "Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming."

Yep, I bet that Mom is a quilter!!!

That is such a precious story. I'm just fine with a little girl confusing a comforter (of any kind) with a quilt. However, I have an acquaintance who always greets me with 'Are you still making blankets'. She says it in much the same manner that Sunny's SM dealer seems to ask if she's still washing her face with dog poop. So far, I've managed to be polite. One day I just might reply with something nasty such as 'I see you're still not doing anything but eating'. I know she's one of those low self-esteem people who only feels good by putting someone down. We can only hope that she doesn't appear on a day when I'm wearing my Cranky Pants. Polly

I get 'Do you STILL sew?? as if it were a truly amazing thing that I do anything so old-fashioned! Then I let them see what I'm making... :D

'Cranky pants'!! Love that expression!

Dell fella was here...checked out my compie and now I have a NEW MOUSE. Says If I have any more trouble of any kind just to call. He LOVED the quilt I'm working on. 'I see you sew--what is that on the wall?' (His Mom/relatives, etc, don't 'do that kind of stuff' ) Said If I talked Quilt to him it would be like him talking computereese to me. Boy, does he have that right. He did take the proper amount of time to ohhh and ahhh over it.

Butterfly (not sure if he really WAS impressed or was just trying good PR and I don't care: )

My ex used to call my sewing/quilting "knitting" even though he grew up in a house with a mother and grandmother who sewed all the time. [he did, however, understand the fact that I had scissors, and then also had fabric scissors]

Now that I do loom knitting and quilting, wonder what he would call them. No chance of finding out [my choice].

Aha. I've been hoping that a loomer would show up. I'm wondering if there is a round loom for preemie caps. The ones I have are just a little bit too big and the only smaller size I've found available is for something like a rosette. Where do I look for a preemie size? Polly

Polly, even a piece of timber with a hole cut from the middle would do the job. A light sand would probably be needed on the inner cut edges.

The size and number of nails I have no idea on, but as you have one that is too large and one that is too small I'm sure an intellegent lady like you would have no problems working that out :-)

No excuses from me. I won't even go into what a nail I've attempted to drive looks like. No matter. I don't want to make one. I just believe that somebody makes them already and I could just order one. (I have on my optimistic hat today.) Polly

Ah the popular one is made by Provo-Craft, called Knifty Knitter. They have round and long looms. a common set is 4 round looms, sized baby, toddler, teen/women's/small adult head, large adult head. There are some supposed glow-in-the-dark one by someone that may be available at TSWLTH. If you are an eBayer you can get a good deal on a set.

A co-worker gave me left over yarn, another one gave me leftover baby yarn, and I have been looming a lot! All hats but am expecting my Amazon.com order with detailed book for doing flat scarves, etc. I find the looming is very portable, unlike most of my quilting.

I can do you preemie hats, Polly!!!!! Last weekend all my hats finished - even one I made for me! - were sent to a reservation near Bakersfield for Fall Gathering. I'm talking about 2 dozen hats! [email me offline!]

I just finished my first round loom hat. The Knifty Knitter set has four looms. I used the red (second smallest) for my two year old grand-daughter and it looks a bit small. The blue (smallest) one is teeny tiny and would surely work for newborns. I'm a 'real' knitter, but thought the loom looked different and fun. Unfortunately, it makes my hand ache, just like the socks I'm making on size 1 double- pointed needles.

I bought my set of looks at Joanns with my 50% + 10% off coupons. Don't know that I'll stop knitting, but it is fun to change and something new to learn.

Well, no. The blue loom is fine for a newborn but is too big for a preemie. Our first grandchildren - a set of twins - weighed in at a little, little bit more than 3 pounds. The wee ones just must be kept warm and the neonatal nurses are quick to put caps on the tiny folks. I tried the blue loom's cap on the preemie doll that I keep for a sort of 'dress form'. The cap isn't a whole lot too big but it really is loose and baggy. Polly

Howdy!

Son & his girlfriend gave me a set of these last Christmas;

tried it, made a little something (I don't know what) and showed themthat I did appreciate their gift. Then I took that something apartand crocheted a little hat. Then I went to Michaels (where the gf workedat the time) and bought more yarn. Lots more yarn. Got hooked onthe "eyelash" yarn and bought a bunch of it. I'm going to send the firstpurple eyelash afghan to my mom. The K-K is still on display (isn't that a good word for "sitting ona little table behind the sofa"?) in the front room; I'm using the basketthey gave me all the time. ;-D Btw, the patterns & instructions found on several websites were muchbetter than those included w/ the K-K. Guess that's why I gave up on the K-K when I bought the set a couple years ago. The instructions that came with them were awful! Gave all the looms to my granddaughers. They loved them. So, they didn't go to waste.

Thinking outside the box a bit - how about a sock loom?

Does this k-k work like the wooden thread spools with the 4 little nails driven into it that our Grammas made to keep us kids busy?

We made long 'sort of round' things that were then coiled together and stitched in place to make a hat.

You are most welcome Polly, I'm just glad my suggestion helped. Maybe if you give them a call and tell them you need to make preemie hats urgently they might be able to speed things up a bit.
