OT: HUG Thoughts for my DD

DD is need to some good thoughts right now. Life really feels tough for this bright, amazing 21 yo. While she was in the middle of the ocean with Semester at Sea in April her roommate informed her that she was moving out in 2 weeks (breaking the contract) and DD was responsible for the rent if she wanted to keep the apt. When she got home in May she found a summer roommate and her fall roommate told her he would be back from Iraq by the middle of September. Fall roommate called on Tuesday to let her know that he will be moving in on the 23rd. That had her flying like a kite with excitement since she really likes this boy. Wednesday she got home from work and was going to get ready for Rosh Hoshanna services when he noticed the front door of the apt open and the lock broke. She lost her laptop with her homework that was was due yesterday, her external hard drive with all 5000 pictures from Semester at Sea, cash which was her tip money from second job, and a dufflebag that the creeps used to put her stuff into. She is psychologically a mess, scared to be in the apartment by her self until boy gets there, feels violated (who wouldn't) wants to drop out of school (she is a senior) and just move back across country to be home with Mommy. Please send her good thoughts that all will look better shortly, not to drop out of school and to let her feel the love quilters have for those who are feeling down.

Thanks so much

I know from personal experience that the feelings of invasion and violation after something like that are overwhelming. I hope your DD will be able to overcome her very understandable fears soon and that she will continue with her education.

Poor young lass; what a shock for her. It is so hard to 'carry on' as if nothing had happened. I think she will have to try to face it and continue in spite of it. Could she perhaps stay with someone - or have some stay with her, even for free, until 23 September? So many of us have experience a similar intrusion, and it is hateful. If we get scared (and I do) then 'they' have won and anarchy *will* rule. . In message , Debbi in SO CA writes

(((((((((((((((((((((((((Debbie's DD)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) What an awful thing to happen to her! I hope somehow the crime can be solved and the items recovered. I know...unlikely....but hey!!! We can hope!

So sorry, Debbi! Tell your DD to hang tough! The same thing happened to my son, who is nearby, so being by Mommy doesn't make one immune to creeps. :/ They broke in a window, used a duffle bag he had in his closet to take everything small enough to fit in and carry out. Laptop, cash, ipod, palm pilot etc. I figure these guys are on foot and need drug money. They ransacked his house, pulling out drawers, furniture cushions, etc. It really is a violation! BUT, your daughter doesn't have to let them have what she's worked so hard to get...her degree. :) That's her call.

Hugs going out to you DD, Debbi. I can understand her wanting to come home to Mom - been there, done that - but we all know it's not the answer. Is there anyone nearby who can stay with her until her fall roommate gets back? Or, for that matter, is there somewhere she can stay until then? I hope everything works out for her.

Poor kid! I'd feel exactly the same way if that had happened to me. I hope they find the creeps that did this. Send her my love and hugs and ask her to hang in there. It'll always get better.

Omigosh Debbie, that's enough to make ME want to move home with my mommy! Poor thing!! It really does do a number on your head when you've been burglarized - it's happened to me too, and I wasn't the same for quite a while. Sending positive, "hope everything gets better soon" to your DD from Seattle, and you take care too!!

I hope you were a faster moving Aztec than he is ; ) My niece works there in admin. Plans are for him to finish up in the spring. I sure hope he does. working full time makes it tough but that was his choice. Taria
