OT: I finally got back on

Hey everyone. I finally got myself back into the newgroup. Puter died and new one has Vista (ya, I know) and at first I could not get newgroups. I finally did some fiddling around and lo and behold, I got newsgroups through my ISP. Don't ask me how I did it, I haven't the slightest idea, just glad that it worked. Hope I am remembered so I can be included in the new Directory. Already signed up for it. Hope to jump on here from time to time. Have had many problems in the last while. Eye problems, teeth problems, deaths in the family, other family problems (childish stuff too numberous to mention). Hate it when people fail to see facts for what they are and don't grow up. I have new quilt pics but I can't put them up on my webshots page since my dead 'puter took them to death with it. Waiting for a guru to pull them off of the dead computer. Don't know how, but he seems to think he can. I also lost my old Directory, as well as all of my personal addy's for family and friends. As well as all their phone numbers. Still haven't been able to get hold of some of them. I'm sure many of you are asking, "Why didn't you backup all of your data?" Sure, that's a simple question. Wish I had a simple answer other than the one I've always used. "Gee, the computer always worked before and I never had to backup anything. Why would I do it now?" Besides, I like to live on the edge!! LOL Hope everyone is well and that all is well with you and yours. Take care, God bless, Catch U later. Marlys in Indiana

Marlys, if you have a guru getting data from your dead 'puter, he should be able to get your email address book from it as well. Then he can add it to your new computer. Same with your "favorites". They are both stored in their own files.

Hope it all works out for you. I went through something similar with my laptop recently. Even tried freezing my hard drive to see if it would work just one more time. It does actually work believe it or not. But I had backed up everything on CDs so I didn't lose any photos or documents. Close call though. I now have external hard drives connected to my desk top and my DH's laptop. Plus I connect one to my laptop every monday and back that up. All they do is backup the computer they are connected to.

Hi Marlys Welcome home! Pull up a chair and fill us in! Done any quilting recently? Sorry to hear that life hasn't smoothed out yet. You'd certainly had your share before your computer died and you disappeared. Anyway, glad you're back. Marilyn in Alberta, Canada
