OT: I must have kicked puppies in another life

Our septic drainfield is failing. Bathroom downstairs overflowed. Septic entry way is filled. Drainfield is soaked and the septic guy says he's contacting the health department. Called the drainfield restoration guy -- $5,000 and has to be started within 3 days of the last pump or get pumped over again. That would be three days from now.

If somebody put a gun to my children's heads and said they would shoot if I didn't hand them $5,000 I'd just have to tell the children good- bye. How do we get blood out of a turnip?

I understand that nobody's life is in danger, no one is dying, no one is ill (but me and that doesn't count). But lordy, there have been too many hits lately and the hits just keep on coming ..... (Kasey Casem)

Sorry, just had to moan somewhere so that I'm calm when I tell DH when he gets home from work. Where there are layoffs six weeks from now.

hugs, sunny

Is there any way you can get assistance from the Health department? I mean, since this is a "health" issue, or will be if you can't get your septic matter drained away? Is there any sort of loan or grant which could help you?

Environmental stressors like that -- things breaking down, neighborhood disruptions -- can be a lot more stressful than they might appear at first glance. Mix in money shortage and you've got a major body blow. Good on you for choosing and using a forum to vent. Here's hoping there's some relief on the horizon.

We'll have to take a loan. But I really don't have anything left in my monthly budget to eke out another payment. My oldest son is still looking for a job with absolutely no luck. We're paying his tuition loan bills and his auto insurance now. And both boys are off our medical and dental, so we're paying that out of pocket. Can you say stress????

Oh Sunny, I'm so sorry this has happened. My house has had one 'disaster' after another, so I understand how crushing this can feel. (And the desperation, too.) Might you consider refinancing your house- and maybe consolidating some other bills, too? The interest rates are favorable right now. Surely they'd be lower than any other type of loan for the septic repairs and it would stretch out your payments.... after all, this is to improve your home.

Best wishes for a great outcome.

It took our oldest grandson more than a year after graduating from college to find a real job. Meanwhile, he took cookies out of the ovens at the local bakery at 4 am and then went to the garden center to buggy sacks of topsoil out to the cars for little old ladies. Under 'current employment' at his real job application, Chris wrote cookie baker/dirt hauler. The new employer was impressed that he did whatever he had to do to pay bills. Here's hoping your son can find something to help you carry the load; part-time, temporary, poor pay - any little bit helps. Polly

Polly, the youngest is thrilled to have found a dishwashing job at the local eatery. The older one is looking at everything from building site cleanup to .... day labor places won't have him. But he keeps looking. Work is hard to find around here, any work. My younger son found his job because he knew someone who worked there and knew the fellow was about to be fired. So he popped in the same day and said "i want to wash dishes and i work really hard.' Older son is hoping somebody else gets fired soon and his brother will be able to tell him about it.

We keep going. No stopping. No refinancing when we may need to sell later this year if my DH has to go searching for a job. We just keep going and praying and hoping for a break.

Leslie, I know you've had the rain falling on your house, too. Hun you are in my thoughts and prayers. It's a tough time all over the world, I think.

I heard the IRS is going to hire 16000 folks. That is not confirmed by me but I would imagine there will never be any lay-offs there. Taria

Sunny, have either of them checked into being a census worker? I know it isn't permanent, but it would be something. Here's a link I found in case they're interested:

Louise, the older one took the test for census takers and they told him he was the top score in the area and probably will get a call once that starts up. Businesses around here have their pick pretty much. Folks with advanced degrees are working in minimum wage jobs and they're glad for it. Cherry harvest will provide about 6-8 weeks of work -- long hours and back-breaking, but good money. But it's all temporary.

Polly I'm so sorry I kicked those puppies. I don't even know which life it was when I did it. Had to be one long ago. I know, people who find out about their past lives were all famous or queens or kings or the like. Not me. I think I must have been a bad person, probably a puppy kicker and maybe yelled at small children. I've tried apologizing to the past, but it really doesn't seem to work. I suppose I'll just have to keep on being nice this time around and hope that next time around maybe my septic won't go kablooey. :)

Sunny, If your son is unemployed he may be eligible for a deferral on his student loan payments. ~*~ Jeri
