OT: iMac and chatting

I've finally got my new iMac. And I'm mainly up and running. David and I have been playing with iChat over our home network. From what I can tell I can also chat over the internet with any one who has an .Mac account, an AIM account, or (maybe) a Jabber account. Does anyone on the group have one of these accounts? If so, interest in chatting once in a while?

We use Mac's here too and I also have iChat and I use it to talk with other friends also on AIM. I haven't set up the Jabber but I don't know anyone else who uses it anyway. I have found that iChat/AIM/YM pretty much covers everyone!

I'll chat with ya!

Welcome aboard! Tina

Howdy!

Congrats on the iMac.

Haven't gone into the chatting, yet (as Tina discovered Saturday I do plenty of that "live & in person" --she was trying to take pics and always caught me w/ mouth open/moving ). But I love the iMac!

Have fun!

Ok, here's something I've been wanting to know.....Will iMac notebooks work with Bernina software and the soon to arrive EQ6??? KJ< who may be in the market for a notebook in the near future

I can't answer the first part of the question, but I do know that Mac and EQ6 don't play together. My wonderful hubby bought me Quilt Pro last year for my birthday after the Big Show because when I went to the EQ booth, they told me it was not Mac compatible and they didn't have any immediate plans to market a Mac version. Too bad so sad for EQ!

Good luck! T> Ok, here's something I've been wanting to know.....Will iMac notebooks work

You can run EQ on a Mac by buying the software program Virtual PC. I've used EQ4 that way, but others who run EQ5 or 6 may have advice on whether all features are enabled, whether it's slow, etc. Tina, would love to know what you think of Quiltpro. I keep thinking about buying it too, partly to "reward" the company for making a Mac version!

I've asked our Teresa at the Presser Foot in Longmont CO about the Bernina software. I'll let you know what she says. You can contact her, too (she's a long-time RCTQer): http://70.57.49.181/presserfoot/Site snipped-for-privacy@thepresserfoot.com This is what Electric Quilter says about their product:

System Requirements:? Windows® XP or Vista? Internet access for activation (4 activations included)? CD-ROM drive ? monitor with screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater ? sound card recommended for demo videos FAQ: I don¹t have Windows XP, will EQ6 work on my computer? No, EQ6 only runs on Windows XP and newer operating systems. Will EQ6 run on my Macintosh computer? We have not had a chance to test this yet. The emulation software used, however, would need to be for Windows XP in order for the software to install.

  • How terribly 20th century of them! Really, I find this rather backwards and incomplete in their products, ignoring a better system (IMO ) for playing w/ their toys. Oh, well, their loss. I don't EQ. Of course, Entourage on my iMac runs w/ Windows assistance, so who knows-- maybe there's hope. Meanwhile, get the Notebook anyway. You can easily get to RCTQ from there. ;-D

What I have done with it so far, I have loved. It is "Mac-ignoramous" friendly and that suits me well! LOL It does all the advanced stuff, and it plays well with my Carol Doak software and such - so I figure as soon as I have time to play with it more and learn how to do everything, I will be thrilled!

But they will play together! You just need Virtual PC (for the power Macs) or Parallels (for the Intel Macs). It takes some setting up (I had the local dealer do it for me) but once you do, you can use EQ on the Mac.

Check out the EQ on Macs list at Yahoo groups.

You beat me to it, Maureen! I was going to say much the same thing. However, with the new Intel Macs, there are apparently three choices of how to make EQ function. Parallels is the one I've been looking at for when I get my new MacBook (soon, I hope!), as it works much like VPC has done -- but faster. BootCamp is put out by Apple, but it requires rebooting into the Windows partition, so it's not really possible -- as I understand it, at least -- to share files between the Mac partition and the Windows one. The newest I've heard of, and whose name I've completely forgotten!, is even cooler. It allows the Mac to "trick" Windows apps into thinking that they're running on XP without ever installing that OS! If that one is as good as it sounds, that's the one I'll use -- assuming I can remember its name by then.
