OT: Just bragging

My DH is the smartest man I've ever known. He has put in the entire irrigation system for the new yards by himself (with some digging work by my sons). Yesterday was the day of truth. He hooked up all the wires and attached them to the controller. It worked like it's supposed to. That may sound anti-climactic, but for us it was high celebration. The timer works perfectly, with everything coming on and going off just when it's supposed to without anybody throwing even one switch. Now when we go back to Seattle next week we won't have to worry about the newly planted landscaping dying in the heat. The sprinklers and bubblers and drippers and sprayers and all the other little watering devices will do their jobs without human interference.

Like I said, just bragging. My man is amazing!

Congratulations! That is a HUGE job with so many ways to go wrong that your DH has certainly earned some TLC and a pie of his choice.

That's awesome! We needed all those sprinklers, bubblers and timers when we lived in Scottsdale. I got pretty good at programming the controller. I don't know if DH ever mastered it. But now that we are in Iowa, we can let Mother nature do the watering most of the time. I'm so happy you have all yours working perfectly. KJ

Awesome! He sounds as handy as a pocket on a shirt, like my grandma used to say. :-) And I am totally jealous. It's so dreadfully hot and dry here and I am wearing myself out dragging the hose around just trying to keep things alive until it cools down a bit.

Sunny, When are you coming to Seattle? I live just across the lake in Bellevue maybe I could meet you someplace for a face-to-face. My email should work as is and I'm in the directory. Donna in Bellevue

Yay!

Praying for some rain today for my herbs and other pots... Otherwise I'll be out there this evening with the watering can!

Me too Yay! Just had them installed a couple weeks ago and just love to see new grass popping up and GREEN too! The installer threw in a rain sensor which is fabulous. If there has been 1/4 inch of rain, the sprinklers don't come on till the next scheduled cycle. Saves both water and electricity, a very good thing!

No, Roberta, he's not for rent. This job just about was more than he could handle as he works long days and often hits the office before 5 a.m. (Ugh!) We have zero grass now. It's totally zoned. One lush zone up near where we will sit, covered by shade a good part of the day, and the rest xeriscaped. Plants are on drippers and bubblers as needed in the various zones. Most of the lower zones are reserved for plants that are drought tolerant. We typically get less than 10 inches of rain a year here. All the green in our valley comes from irrigation off the various rivers. So we love those salvias and yarrows and penstemon plants and the little blue grasses and such. And DH is thrilled that there will no longer be a need for his new, fancy- schmancy lawn mower that he hated so much. I think he's going to trade it in on a little wood chipper. Freedom from grass is a cool thing. We considered having a yarrow lawn. But it didn't really suit our tastes. We're much more foliage and flower people.

Oh my goodness, Roberta - shades of Sairey. Haven't heard anyone ask to rent a husband, boy friend, SO for a long time!

I'm not looking to rent a husband but DH has been asking for decades couldn't I get us a Sugar Daddy. Anybody know a rich man? Polly

You know, my DH makes the same suggestion from time to time. Answer is this: only rich men I ever met I couldn't stand. So there it stands. Poor as church mice but fairly happy. Works for me. So if I do come across that Sugar Daddy I'll send him to your swamp. Just make sure he doesn't hurt your gators.

I think I'd just prefer that current husband stay alive and well but win a big lotto jackpot!

Since dd moved out a year ago at 24 she mentiones she'd move back if we let her. She works hard at her job but except for her part of the expenses she had to do almost nothing around here. I tend to cater too much I suppose. I still do her laundry. I may be a retired SAHM but fussing for them all is just in me too deep.

My sis teases that she needs a wife too. If she didn't choose one of those any better than she picked husbands it wouldn't do her any good. : ( Taria
