OT - Musicmaker and DH

Musicmaker is at the ER with her DH. Apparently he has a blood clot in his leg. They are starting him on thinner and admitting him. He just had gall bladder surgery on Tuesday, so they are going to have to be very careful about this. Don't want to start any bleeds in the process. All prayers and good thoughts very much appreciated by them.

Musicmaker here - just got home after settling DH in with books, cell phone, dvd player, nicotine gum. The clot is in his right forearm where the IV was during his surgery. It wouldn't be serious if it were in a superficial vein, but it is in a deep vein that could potentially carry the clot to the lungs, but at this point he has redness and pain, but his pulse is good in that arm and there seems to be no occlusion, which I've gathered means no back up of blood building pressure behing the vein. I do appreciate your prayers and will let you know more as I do. THANKS to my awesome online friends!!

I missed the original post, but prayers from here as well.

After my gall bladder op I had anticoagulents and pressure stockings and all that jazz.

Butterfly, it's the hand of God that caught it so early. Chuck was talking to DS on the phone yesterday. DS has recently had a hospitalization followed by a home IV with a picline, and while the picline was in several veinous clots formed. When Chuck mentioned his symptoms on the phone, DS exclaimed that they were identical to his and that we should go immediately to the ER and have the doctor check it out. We did - and at this point Chuck is taking, umm, is it heparin? No cumadin so far, at least until a regular doc can see him. I'm returning to the hospital in about an hour. Musicmaker

Thanks for the update. Fingers will remain firmly knotted...

My mum's had DVT a couple or three times. Waiting is always the pits, but he will be fine.

DH went thru the 'stay in bed in hospital ' both times. 2nd time they put that 'umbrella' in (his started from his leg). Now, he is permanently on Coumadin which is being closely monitored because of the recent Chemo infusion. He's having a hard time keeping the level in the 'target range'.

Don't be surprised if they send him home with a compression stocking for his arm.

Butterfly (He'll be fine with all of us looking after him)

Heparin is stronger than coumadin. If the doctors feel his blood still needs thinning when your DH goes home, they'll probably give him coumadin.

Keeping the good thoughts headed your way.
