OT need computer help- again- please

?I was having some problems with my Internet Explorer doing strange and frustrating things, so I accepted their latest version and it's MUCH worse. I think the new one is IE9, but I could have the number wrong. Any way, I have noooo idea how to get rid of this latest version and go back to the previous one. Can anybody tell me where to start looking and how to do it? (My little laptop has Windows 7 Basic if that makes any difference- my desktop computer is even worse off than the laptop, so I stopped using it- sheesh.)

TIA

Maybe it is time to consider another browser altogether?

I use Firefox, there are other choices out there.

Good luck!

I used Mozilla Firefox for a couple of years -- but am now with Google Chrome.

Firefox add-ons had slowed things down horribly. Chrome is really fast and good.

Here is where you go to download Mozilla Firefox:

I would strongly urge you to consider to switching to one of these. And when it asks you to designate as your default browser -- just click YES.

If you really want to go back to an earlier -- you might be able to do it using the System Restore option by restoring the computer to a date before you did the update.

Leslie, same thing happened to me. I retrograded back to the older version. Go to Google and type in "retrograde to IE7". I think the new version is 8. You'll find a link with instructions on how to do it. Easy peasy. If I can do it, anyone can. You might want to download the Chrome browser also, fast and easy. It's always good to have 2-3 browsers on your desktop in case one isn't working good. Donna

You should also be able to "restore" your computer to a date before you upgraded IE. I didn't care for the new version either. A friend had us switch to Firefox and I did not like it at all. To each his own, I guess. lol

The different browsers have different features so sometimes one works better than another.....I like Firefox best but sometimes IE is better for printing. I like how Chrome synchronizes bookmarks between computers but it doesn't do print preview (a feature I use a lot) so it's my third choice for now. In any case, it's better to have more than one installed. imho Allison

Poor Leslie. I hope one of the suggestions was just right for you. When my computer goes to flashing a message that I need to upgrade something, I think, "NO. Just come kill me. I can't stand anymore." with sympathy, Polly

Kate, this all sounds interesting but I have nooooo idea what you are talking about! If I use one of those like Chrome what happens to my Yahoo home page and Yahoo email inbox? I am lost.... and feeling pretty durn dumb.

I used a restore point and am back to my previous version of IE.... better than the newest one but still not great. (When my computers get unbearably messed up I buy a new computer- now isn't that pathetic??? LOL I cannot handle the frustration so starting over is easiest for me.)

If you switch to another browser it will give you the opportunity to import all your bookmarks. Click yes and it will do the importing for you.

Do you have access to some computer savvy teens or young adults? Consider hiring one of them to come over and give you a tutorial on your system. You can make a list of things you want to know and have your tutor walk you through those items. If we lived closer to each other, I would send one of my kids over to do this for you. Bet you can find someone locally, maybe through your church or other friends?

You set your home page in your browser -- so your Yahoo! home page would be the same. It would also have no effect on your Yahoo! email account.

If you're back to a IE version that works... then sounds like you're good for now.

All you do on those links is pick one... click download. Once it downloads it should prompt you to install... and you click yes. Answer the questions along the way (like yes -- import bookmarks, yes set as default browser...) and then you are off and running.

Have you considered checking out your local school district's community education program? Almost all offer very basic computer classes for not a lot of money. I know because I used to teach them! or check your local library or senior center (if you qualify)... they often offer classes as well.

In the meantime -- glad you're back to where you wanted to be.

Are you saying that Chrome *replaces* IE and does the same thing in basically the same way?

Yep, that would be it! I have both and use both. There are some things about the way IE saves bookmarks that I prefer in certain cases. But, functionally, IE and Chrome are pretty much alike.
