OT: NFL sunday ticket

There have been some threads recently about commercials on TV. The ones I really don't like are the ones for Directv's NFL Sunday Ticket. I am not much of a football fan, but I don't mind there being a station for those that are more of a football fan than me.

What I don't like is when the lady that is a Green Bay fan spells out "scum bag" or whatever on the welcome basket or when the waitress rings out her dishrag just because the other guys are fans of a different team is quite childish.

I don't really think that an adult would be prompted to act that way by football fandom, but as I said, I am not much of a football fan, so I really do not know (if I were the owner of the cafe, and caught a waitress ringing out a dishrag into a customer's iced tea, she would be fired on the spot no matter what team the customer is a fan of). What I REALLY do not like is the implication that it is OKAY to do such things because someome else is a fan of a different team than you are.

The dish rag one is gross, but even though I am not a football fan, I find the other ones funny. My mother is a sweet lady who quilts, but she is also a rabid New England Patriots fan, and I get a great kick out of the one where the older lady is confessing to her minister/ priest, that maybe she wasn't as friendly as she should have been to the new neighbors who like a different team, I see a bit of my mom in her.

I hate to disagree with a fellow quilter, but much as I love quilting, I love my football (and my San Francisco 49ers) even more and find those ads (and the old Southwest Airlines "It must be football season" ads) a real hoot.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a football fan. We are all fans of what we are fans of. I happen to like anime and the show M*A*S*H. What I object to is doing or encouraging doing these mean and petty things because someone else is a fan of a differnt football team, or a different show, or a different kind of cartoon.

For instance, in the one where the guy gets a welcome basket that says "dirt bag", he gets it because he is a 49ers fan. Would you want someone to do that to you. Would you do that kind of thing to someone who is a fan of, say, the Arizona Cardinals or the Dallas cowboys or the Green Bay Packers (just because I am not really a fan does not mean that I don't know the names of the teams).

As a displaced Steelers fan living with a life long Redskins enthusiast, I must say, "Can't we all just get along?" I'm living in Redskin territory, there are Dallas fans and other Steelers fans about but I don't see any fighting, we have to "get along"!
