OT On top v On bottom again

Awhile ago there was the discussion of topV bottom postings. Since Jeanne helped me to get NG postings into my OE (for which I'm grateful... I think)I've come to have an opinion about them and would like to say I prefer them on top... saves having to scroll all the way to the bottom of some very long postings. It's good to have the others attached to the bottom incase you've missed something... or like me your like the cow's tail... always behind.

Just my pennyth worth... >VBG<

I *much* prefer top postings, too. If I need to read the previous/quoted post I can scroll. But I seldom need to do that. It wears out my fingers doing a lot of unnecessary scrolling- and I need those fingers for quilting! There's just so many finger movements in a day when you are "blessed" with arthritis..... :-/

Definately on top! I don't like having to scroll down to the bottom of the post either. I like it right on top.

I'm a top poster and prefer reading the NEW response easily (You can always scroll down if you missed it!)

But I'm sure that those who prefer bottom posting will jump in here with why they prefer to ...

**do it backwards** LOL

Consensus? not in this group I'm sure! LOL

My system automatically puts the cursor at bottom for a reply. I move it to the top. If I want to see the text that prompted a reply, I'll look at it!

Top, definitely top.

In fact if I can't see the reply without scrolling down, I don't - just skip that one altogether!

Top for me, bottom posts confuse me, as to the ones that are all mixed together. Then again I am easily confused lol (saying this after picking out many many many little squares I sewed onto the wrong side grrrr)

Depending on what you are using to read and reply to a message, you may be able to change that. I use Mozilla Thunderbird, and that is an option in the Account Settings. I can choose to automatically include or not include the message I'm replying to and if I include it, whether to start my reply at the top or at the bottom.

My browser has a setting that can be changed to start the answers above the original post instead of below...... you might check and see if you can do that, Ginger.

I have used Google for the last few years to read the NG and as every post came through as a top poster it was really easy to read.

Now that we have changed to a new ISP and I am able to get the NG in OE I am reminded that I dislike bottom posters.

Indispersed answers I don't mind either, in fact in some posts I find them helpful.

Me too, Sally. If I'm in a hurry, I just skip the bottom posts and truly don't usually have time for the interspersed ones either. Sometimes, if there's a 5-part question, I just might read those but it's unlikely. Between quilting and feeding the gators, time gets tight here. Polly

of the flow of the conversation. makes more sense in terms it is more natural to me and I prefer bottom posting because

Plus it is usenet standard and I always have to adjust my brain to top posting here. That is why i save this group until last. In other groups I would be all but crucified for top posting. I did make that mistake at least once before I started saving reading here for last. After my explanation several people came over to take a peek and were just astounded. Y'all freaked out the freaks! Hey go you! (G)

I do try to edit longer posts to just the salient points I am addressing, often interspersing my comments in the process. Though I discovered that top posting makes me lazy about editing.

I will say that it is annoying as heck to have to scroll down and search through an unedited post or several to try and make sense of what somebody says on top of it all. Often enough I fail at that. We do have some posters here who are really very good at editing though.

I've been in groups that would flame you mercilessly for top-posting (called "top-poasting" in those circles - don't ask me why!) ... and there, I bottom-post. But in the end, I like top-posting better. I use Outlook for my NG reading now (used to use Thoth, but Mac isn't set up for NGs anymore) and OLE automatically puts my cursor at the top. And I'm lazy! :)

I figure, as long as the reader can make sense out of it all, what's the harm? :)

Hugs!! Connie :)
