OT: Our US trip underway....

Well, our trip is underway and we are having a fantastic time as ever in the beautiful US of A. Santa Fe is the most enchanting place I have been to I think! We love it - the architecture of abobe pueblo, the colors, the textiles and art. The house we have rented is a 10 min stroll to the old town plaza area and is charming in everyway. Kitchen fully equipped for our catering needs. The weather is fabulous as well; blue skies and warm. We did a day trip north to Taos, another artisanal town, and tomorrow we are going back in that direction to explore the Rio Grande = we had no idea it was in this area and we saw a bit of it returning from Taos. I can see some pictorial quilts already in my mind's eye :)

This coming Friday we fly to Washington DC and are staying right downtown for 5 nights. Any of you live in the area and want to say Hi? Email me at bronferrier at gmail dot com.

Well, must away, I have a cple more emails to bash out and it is

3.30am! Woke up and couldnt sleep - at 7000ft altitude our sleep patterns are bit awray and it is easy to be short of breath walking around during the day. Cheers Bronnie

I hope you have the opportunity to go to Canyon Road to see all the art work in all the shops. One of the best meals I have had in my life was at Geronimo on Canyon Road. Fabulous food, great ambiance. I love Santa Fe - it's not particularly touristy, in that there aren't a bunch of stores selling junky souvenirs. It's a shoppers paradise & an art collector's dream come true.

That's so true Pauline! The art galleries and jewellery stores do have some classic work. I bought a beautiful garnet 'pearl' and stg silver necklace. Very elegant. We have so enjoyed just walking around.

Glad to hear your trip is going well!

Santa Fe is definitely quite charming and we didn't have a chance to do too much exploring when we were there a number of years ago.

If you're in DC for 5 days and have time in your schedule you may want to rent a car and drive to Lancaster, PA (not on Sunday!) for the quilt shops. It's only a couple of hours each way from DC. Get to check out some of the great food there as well.

Thanks Kim! I suppose you don't want me to tell you that this weeks weather in ABQ and SF is glorious -not a cloud in the sky and perfect warm temps.! Your Fiesta week would have been great a week later....but we can't choose the weather hey, try as we might!

And, if you're in Lancaster, you might want to drive just a little further to Morgantown, PA, Rt. 23, (exit 298) on the PA Turnpike. The Hayloft Fabric Store is closing and in the midst of a clearance sale. All fabrics, notions, patterns, everything being sold at 50 % off! Also, there's a cute gift shop downstairs which is also selling everything for half price. You don't want to know how much I've "saved" at these places! The sale will go on until November 5th, but the choices will be more limited. They used to advertise "10,000 bolts" of fabric, and I'd say that they're now down to about 6,000, which is still more than some shops have!
