OT pitiful Polly

I realize that some of you are quilting and not enthralled about the new eyesight I am beginning. I am delighted that you are doing the journey with me. Some of you may get older and sharing the journey may encourage you to do it too. That selfish excuse aside ... my hand where they had the iv installed is sore and pitifully black. Seems to be growing which probably is to be expected. Anything I can do? Have a pity party? Send sympathy cards? Ice? Heat? Major big order of fq's ? It's kind of ugly and we have company coming Sunday and I don't want them to faint. Silly, ungrateful, prideful. There's an 8 year-old who will be expecting some drawing lessons from Aunt Polly and I don't want her to faint dead-away from my black hand. Polly

Be a lady and wear gloves? :-)

Sorry! Don't have anything better - I've heard of this, so think it is normal, if that is any consolation.

I'm glad you answered but don't think even the Queen wears gloves if she's the hostess. I could ask. Meanwhile - I've wondered for some time... where is DK. I'm guessing it's not North Dakota or south. Polly

DK = Denmark

Used to be "in VA", then "in London".

"In Copenhagen" is just too long, and probably there is some small place somewhere else also called Copenhagen :-)

How about a large sticking plaster? or is it too big for that? A nice white bandage? (little girl would love that - at least, I was fascinated by bandages when I was small >gwant them to faint. Silly, ungrateful, prideful. There's an 8

I knew DK was Denmark so I am proud of me for knowing that! There is also a Denmark,SC in case you want to know. Polly, have you tried Neospoirin Plus (for the pain and to help heal faster) ? If a large Band-Aid won't cover the place, you might just make your own bandage to cover the place on your arm or hand and use make up for the area not directly on the puncture. My DH uses really extra large Band-Aids when he cuts his arm. HTH Barbara in SC

What about arnica cream? We use that a lot here in France.

Will make the bruising come out almost instantly, will hurt like h*** for about 1/2 hour, but will then start fading away quicker than normal. The arnica seems to draw the pain out with it and bruises don't seem to hurt so much once the initial ouch has gone.

I am utterly enthralled! Just hope your wonderful quilts will not become less colorful now that you can see what you're doing :-)

Well, phooey, that's no fun at all. Poor, poor Polly! But to be practica= l- are you on any blood thinners (like warfarin)? If you are and the dark= spot continues to grow you need to see a doctor. I have a funny feeling i= ce may make it clot up and might cause problems- but then I'm a retired acc= ountant not a nurse or doctor.....

Hope it stops by itself and all will be well for you. And I agree with th= e suggestions for a lacy glove (think Michael Jackson! LOL) or some found= ation make-up to hide it.

I'm not quilting - soon be a year since I opened up my sewing machine for anything creative or otherwise!

I'll swap your b&b (black&blue) hand for my arms which are in the same condition after iv nurse tried 3times in both arms to start a line 2 weeks ago. I'm now self-injecting in my stomach daily and each site is bruising - hope it is finished soon. I'm heading off to the blood lab soon for another test and another arm needle - testing is happening 3 times a week.

The other day, I was trying to clean off what I thought was a dirt smudge on my left thumb knuckle - turned out that it was a bruise and didn't wash off.

Cats can't understand why they don't have the same interaction with me at the moment - one day! barnyowl

Arnica cream like Janner suggested, or arnica pills from the homeopathic area of your drugstore. Arnica ia super for bruising prevention and cure.

Start a new fashion statement with a large child's bandage with smily faces on it. [I did that on the last skin cancer surgery on my face, got the attorneys to smile]

Gentle heat compress to help disperse it. It will be turning some pretty colors of purple then go into a not-so-presentable-muddy yellow. Take pictures of any of the colors you like so you can match them later with fabric ;)

You're right. Was just weary last night. If not better by Sunday, I'll just draw a smiley face on. This morning I glanced from the laundry room across the kitchen and family room and could read the bottom line on the tv where they give the temperatures across the country. WOWzer.

Saw that and smiled, Hanne. I was going to confess to straining at a gnat but couldn't remember for sure what was the silly way gnat was spelled. Polly

Polly, I can't help with the bruise at all -- though I'll admit that the idea of lacy mitts is an interesting one -- but I did want to say that I am truly enjoying your "epiphany" of vision! A few years back I had eye surgery (not cataracts, though that's probably in my future) and a few years of eye therapy (ongoing) that gives me depth perception for the first time in my life, though not always at all distances. It's truly amazing how a change in vision changes how we look at things (no pun intended, really!), isn't it? :)

Howdy! Get a hook, and a parrot.

Surely there's something in your stash ... appropriate for a bandana. Oh, and practice your "ARGGGGH!"

I wish there was an edit on newsgroups and email, like on facebook. Another one apart from me just taking my time, that is.

At least I know I do it much less in my mother tongue.

Glad it brought a smile :-)
