OT Prayers Needed

As most of you know I live in Florida during the Winter. Our son lives in SC. Saturday morning I got a phone call from the SC Hospital ICU to let me know that Kevin had been admitted with phnemonia. We were on our way home ASAP for an 11 hour drive. He has improved but will now be Insulin dependent for the rest of his life and he is only 41. At least he had an alert doctor who checked the bacteria that was in his lungs and treated it the only way available. And we had 6 & 1/2 inches of snow Sunday afternoon for our 20 mile drive to the hospital.. I need lots of prayers.Thank you, Barbara in SC cause I just got back from FL

Good thoughts going out to your son for a speedy recovery. Did the diabetes come on along with the pneumonia? Or was it worsened by it?

Thanks Michelle, my understanding is that the only drug to treat the infection made him dependent on Insuin, and if he had not had the drug, he would not have lived. Barbara in SC 7 FL

Ah, well taking insulin is definitely the lesser of the two evils! I'm a borderline type 2 myself. If your son spends any time at the computer there is a very helpful, supportive online newsgroup which was a lifesaver for me: alt.support.diabetes These are knowledgeable people, and people who understand what he's going through. While it will take your son time to adjust, the insulin dependent diabetics with whom I'm familiar live completely normal lives.

Keeping the good thoughts coming your way.

I thank everyone for the prayers and warm thought. Last night about 8 PM he was moved from ICU to a room on the same 5th floor where there are patients who take chemo. That lets me know how bad off Kevin still is. If he had been 30 minutes later in getting to the hospital, he would not have lived. I am so thankful that his friends recognized how bad off he was, and came to transport him. An ambulance would not have been faster! He had a super virus of some kind that the doctor tested to see what antibiotic would kill it. He hope he will get to come home in a couple of days. thanks again for the prayers. Barbara, now in SC

Sending prayers and good thoughts for your whole family. See if you can go with your son to the Diabetes Education so you can get a handle on food and other issues that will affect him and your family. Hugs from Virginia, PAT

Thoughts and prayers for a rapid healing on their way from Indiana...

In the meantime, take care of yourself, too. Worrying is very hard work.
