OT question for bloggers

I am hoping one of you can point me in the right direction. I have been asked to set up a blog site for my daughter so she can update her friends and family about her current health issues and where people can add comments to her. I am looking for something I can set up and then she can maintain easily by herself. She is computer literate, just lacking the time, and the energy, to set it up for herself. Maybe something one can post to by sending an email to it??

Do you have any suggestions of blog hosting sites I could explore? I use yahoo 360 myself but maybe something less 'proprietary' might be better for her. Also are there blog sites for people with health problems of various sorts?

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. You can contact me off-group at Rosanne DOT Morgan AT sbcglobal DOT net by making the obvious changes. Thanks so much.

[prayers and good thoughts would be accepted as well]

I use blogger.com. It's free and very easy and quick to set up. I don't think there is a specific blog host for people with health problems, but your daughter can quickly find other bloggers who write about the same sorts of topics as she does, by searching sites such as technorati.com (which is sort of like Google for blogs). Once she finds one or two of them she can explore their "Blogrolls" (lists of other blogs who link to each other). Then she can exchange links with the ones she likes, and before she knows it she will become a member of the "diabetes" blogosphere or "lupus" blogosphere or whatever her personal health issues happen to be.

Wherever you choose to set up her blog, be sure to tell us all about it so we can go and read her first posts and encourage her.

Rose,

Check out caringbridge.org I only know of it because one of my coworkers is battling cancer and his family provides information to us through Caring Bridge. It may be all you need.

I just set one up with Google, Rose. It was my first try and it couldn't have been easier.

Blogger is very easy, and free. Typepad has more features.

Blogger would probably be all she needs -- not much maintaining to do, she can post by email or online, people can comment. Set up takes all of two minutes.

Does she want the entire universe to know about it?

There may be blog sites that allow access only to approved people, but I don't know of one; maybe somebody here does?

caringbridge, for one, has some privacy controls built in so that you can restrict access. caringbridge is not a general blogging website -- more for people that have serious health issues to share their situation.
