OT: question for those with interior design experience

OK, now I had this all worked out in my head, but now I'm wondering if I got it right or not.

We have a LOOOOOnnnnnng skinny room (was originally 2 small bedrooms, we were NOT the ones to change it). We want it to look more square than rectangle, so we have 2 colors of paint - linen white, which is a creamy off-white, and wild bamboo, which is...um....a muted yellow/ green off-white, a bit darker than the linen white.

The decision made between DH and myself was to put the darker colors on the walls that are furthest apart and the light color on the walls that are closest together (in other words, linen on the long walls, bamboo on the short walls. NOw I'm wondering if we have it bass- ackwards.

If any of our color/interior design experts are reading this, could you please give me some direction??

We already have the new curtains, which go with both colors and are therefor a non-issue, and eventually, I will be reupholstering the sofabed that occupies one of the long walls. I'm just discombobulated as to correct color placement ON the walls.

Thanks bunches!!

You've got it right, I know if you paint a high ceiling white it looks further away....

If you are trying to square up a room it is a good idea to not put the sofa on one of the long walls. Since you already have the sofa, I would put it caty corner on one end, but make it so you can get behind it. On the eother end, put two overstuffed chairs at an angle, perhaps with a table between them with a nice big lamp.

You can still put a TV on one of the long walls if that is what you are going to do with the room. A big round rug in the middle of your long room will help to square up your room also.
