OT Quicken for Mac

Since I went to a Mac, I installed Quicken for my money tracking. I'd been using MS Money for years. Now we are collecting info for taxes and I'm a bit stumped. Is there any way to find a specific payee and see what and when they were paid? I could do that in Money. I can only find categories in Quicken. There must be a way...I can't imagine having less information options in a newer program compared to an old one. Thanks for any enlightenment! Kathyl

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but.....

Reporting tab on the top. > Reports > Content > click "customize".

That lets you get a summary report, but not specific payments.

Reporting > QkReport looks like it might be more what you're looking for.

I don't have a Mac anymore, but I do have Quicken, and did have it on my Mac long ago, and it is basically the same these days whatever the platform. It's only the key commands that are typically different now.

If I need to find something quick, I simply do a Ctrl-F, and on the Mac it is probably Apple-F or something of the sort. This opens a new window where you can specifiy how you want to search for something. Choose Payee and in the box that shows up enter the name of the Payee and click Find-All and you should get a new window that lists all instances of that Payee, in date order, with the specific amount paid. Double-Clicking on any one will take you to that specific transaction in the register.

Hope this helps. I'm about ready to start the same thing. I go through my register and credit card line-by-line and list it all by category in a spreadsheet for my/our charitable contributions. It gets a bit messy with us since we can't file jointly and we have to figure out who gave what and what to split. We deal with three checking accounts. What a mess.

My version of Quicken is older, but hopefully they're still somewhat the same and this will help. I have a couple of things you can do.

First, see the line at the top of the "check register" that says Date, Num, Payee/Category/Memo (or something on that order)? Click on the box that says "Payee/Category/Memo." That will alphabetize all your payees and you can easily find what you're looking for. To put it back in date order, click on the box that says "Date."

If you want to look up several at one time, go to Reports and then select Spending. Choose Itemized Payees and then choose your date range ("last year" would work for tax purposes). Click on Show Report. The report will come up with the total amount paid to each payee, and you can then click on "Expand All" to show every payment to each one.

Good luck! And if this is clear as mud, let me know, and I'll see if I can be more specific with my instructions!

In the Edit menu, there is find function (Command-F). Type in the name of the payee and it will search through the account and show you each entry for that payee.

There may be a better way, but that is what I always do.

Small world. I got a new PC and could not figure out how to get Money over to my new computer.

I think I threw away the old Windows disc during a Feng Shui attack a few years ago.

So since I was using Money 2000, I thought I would just go buy a new version.

Wrong. Microsoft doesn't make it any more.

I had to get Quicken and I had to get it quick because all our stuff has to be at the accountants by March 1.

I was astounded when I followed the instructions and was able to download all my checks and deposits from my bank. I had to go in and recreate my categories but it sure was easier than I thought it was going to be.

And yeah, I'm aware that I could have transferred the info at least, from the old computer, but I had not really entered any information since June.

Yeah, I know. I'm awful. I'd rather sew.

But I'm all done now! Yay for me!

It's not a new technique for me, I have a couple of her patterns. But it's a day to sew with friends, so it will be fun.
