OT silly computer help needed

This is too ridiculous to even ask. I don't know how to change the size of what appears on my monitor. I went to the bugfabrics.com online shop to order some bugs. Their website produces pictures of fabrics so large that I only realized after a while that I was missing one horizontally on each row because it was further off to the side than my screen was showing. (does that make sense?) I considered logic and clicked 'view'. Nope. Nothing there that applies. How do I get everything within the frame edges of my monitor screen? There are several fun dials at the bottom edge of my monitor but they scare me. Can you help? Polly

Polly, on the bottom right of my screen I have a little spot that often says

100% You can click on it and choose the size you want. and keep choosing till you get something that works for you.

One -- you can use the scroll bar across the bottom of the window to "slide" the picture from right to left...

Another handy tool -- is to hold down the CONTROL button with one hand and with the other -- push either the + or the - to make the text on the screen larger (+) or smaller (-). I use this ALL the time to make various websites easier to read.

But remember -- if you make the text larger-- less will fit on your screen -- then you will have to find the vertical scroll bar (right edge of the screen) or the horizontal scroll bar (bottom of your screen) to "slide" the portion of the page that shows up on your monitor screen.

Clear as swamp mud? Sorry -- hard to explain! I hope it helps at least a little!

Nope. Don't see one of them. Thanks, Marilyn. Polly

What + are you using? I see three of them on this keyboard. One hanging way off to the left, one up by the backspace and one over on the numbers pad. None of them seem to have any function except to type +. Thank you for trying. This is the fanciest looking and most useless keyboard in captivity, and, of course, there's a screw loose at the controls. Polly

If you have a PC, and not a Mac, this is how I change what is known as my screen resolution. It makes your icons and everything smaller, so, your internet browser will thus show more in the window. Only problem is that everything will get smaller on the screen to show more. I then have to look through a different section of my blendeds on my glasses.

So:

  1. Right-click your mouse on the desktop
  2. Go down to properties
  3. Click on the settings tab
  4. Move the slider to the right on the screen resolution a. Click Apply b. You will have a sample of what your screen will now look like c. If you want to keep it, click yes, otherwise click no or it will time out and go back to the previous setting.
  5. When done click OK

Hope this is what you want.

You beat me steve... and I second his advice :) The other thing you can do, is if the web site hasnt made some weird ban on right clicking, you can right click the picture of the fabric and save it to your computer, that way you can make the picture any size you like. I would suggest this if you video card is already at maxium, or if you wont be able to see anything else with the higher resolution ( ie my neighbor cant read anything on the monitor if she changes the resolution so she saves pics when she runs into issues like yours ) Some web sites are weird though and disable the right clicking, as though you might do something awful to their picture.

Ages ago, and I mean ages ago, boy and I getting old, when we all had to deal with DOS a lot more, even with the windows environment, i.e. Windows 95 era, there was a way to view the source code and you could find the name of the picture and put that in the URL spot and it would bring up the image all by itself and then you could right-click and save the image. I think that you can still do it but just haven't had the desire/true need/time to figure it out again.

Today was soooooo long. Our sys-op left to a better paying job, the new sys-op doesn't know what is going on at our school yet, and he was gone today to help out with a district project, and there are still about a dozen teachers that want to be able to print directly to the copy machine and it isn't set up on their computers yet, and they all think that I can do it and the secretary asked if I could help and that I don't have any students in my room don't you know, HA, and that my prep time is to solve all of their computer problems, and could you update this on the website and why isn't this grade change done so this student is eligible and I can't get my personal school assignment to print and why can't you help me right now even though I am trying redo my display case because the principal says it hasn't been changed in forever and, and, and.....

I just wanted to teach today. Just let me interact with the students and help them and teach and really do what I am being paid to do. Please.

Sorry, I am just a bit frustrated today. But it is Friday and Bert and I are going to see Annie tonight at the Performing Arts Center. Some good music to lift the spirits.
