OT SNOW

In case you guys don't know.

The snow is up to my A$$ !!!!!

Jim shoveled 3 times yesterday, can't see where he did it !

The dogs are big, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and it is up to their chests, where Jim shoveled for them, girls don't want to squat in this stuff, has to be 30"+ and it's still coming down. News just said they expect

8" MORE !

This is Virginia, Maryland, DC area, we have been SLAMMED !

I just heard a crack, 7:45 AM, and the largest branch on our Bradford Pear is down, snow started out wet and heavy. Nothing hurt but the tree, it's lost branches in the past.

Wow! Take care and try to stay warm. We are seeing this on the news but don't expect to be touched by it up here in what used to be the frozen north :-) Littleton, MA. We have been very lucky so far this year. Very cold, but not much snow.

Pat, how are things in your part of VA?

Snowing and blowing here in Central NJ as well. I'm going to guess about a ft. so far. Expecting another 6-12 inches before all is said and done. DH is supposed to go to work ( he can walk the 2 blocks) so I'm thinking it's a great sewing day! I think I should probably do some laundry in the process as well but at least those 2 rooms are pretty much side/side so it's not up/down a bazillion flights of stairs! Stay warm everyone!

We got a lot of rain yesterday. It stopped overnight but we expect another big storm with a couple of inches of rain today, along with imbedded thunderstorms. This on top of the 9 inches of rain two weeks ago make for some very nervous people. the fires last summer caused such devastaion, and Mother Nature didn't have a chance to grow any vegetation to stop the mudslides. It's a gravity thing now.

Central Ohio is in the Belly of the Beast. I just ran the snow blower which is a large tracked machine, and did our sidewalks and the neighbors and our driveways. Created a comfort area for Maggie to take care of business. By the time I finished all of that it had laid another inch onto the already 15" or so which had fallen. More to come. Fire up the coffee pot, I will be outside for awhile longer. Brrrr!

My brother and his family live in Chantilly - they just sent pics. It looks more like ALASKA than Virginia! And, they spent the night without elecltricity! Poor SIL bought stocked up on a bunch of food she could make (soups, burgers) but the oven/stove is electric! Next time she she says she's buying all canned stuff LOL

We actually got some snow for a change. They were forecasting 1-3" yesterday and we got about 6" overnight. The first snow we've had since before Christmas. Very unusual winter we are having. Mid-teens to mid-twenties, cloudy to partly sunny, repeat, repeat, repeat, for all that time since then. Usually a very cold snap and lots more snow, but not this year.

We haven't shoveled the driveway yet, but we did do the deck and hot tub. Also remembered to check the greenhouse. Good thing Bert did. We had put a board floor to ceiling to support over the winter, but the thick plastic bubbles had dented in. Will have to wait for the sun to warm them before bumping them out.

All you shovelers, be safe. Do it in shifts and don't stress yourselves too much.

Bonnie,

My DGD #1 is living in Towson, MD right now and has been stuck at work since Friday. I haven't heard from her today, her cell phone is going straight to voicemail so I'm guessing it's dead. She posted on facebook just after midnight that she was still stuck at work, not sure of any of the details but guessing she has electricity and heat. She was really hoping to get home sometime today.

We thanks for asking, Rita. We had some rain Friday and Saturday. Then in afternoon, it changed to snow. So, it is quite wet and puddly (new word!) in low places. Now it is sunny, the mess on the roads has melted off; and there is still some white stuff on the grass and foliage. This is not much snow but standards of more northern places, but for this area, having any snow two weeks in a row is very odd. Good quilting weather! Pat in VA/USA

G"day KIm! Was just about to email you and see how things are NJ. Glad you are surviving the grip of winter. Can't imagine it to be sure. Guess the ballooning is off for a while hey! We have just had the wettest weekend of the summer with inches and inches of rain right down the Qld coast and here in our area. Looks like it is fining up this morning and the sun is trying to poke through the clouds. Still warm though, 29d C. (85+F) Hugs Bronnie

We got 27 inches just West of Pittsburgh, PA, with 8-1/2 inches more predicted for Tuesday & Wednesday. I don't know where we're going to put it! The piles on the sides of the street and either side of my driveway are already waist-high. We were without electricity for about 10 hours Saturday. Got down to 54 degrees F in my mobile home. There are still thousands without power and heat in this area. Temps were 8 degrees F last night and 6 degrees F predicted for tonight! It is supposed to snow for 13 of the next 15 days.

After close "observation" my SO said that my discription of how deep the snow is/was was correct! We have a path to the street now, and the town has been right on the job, we can see some of the blacktop. The piles on either side (pushed into everyones yards) are as tall or taller than me (5'2"). Our vehcles are partially dug out, no work today for SO, and will be free of snow by the end of today. I will not be driving anywhere to soon.

The girls are happy with their path, though I woul not personally walk out there now! I got to and filled my bird feeders, they have been very popular.

We are lucky to be warm and well fed, the same for our neighbors. The nurse across the street has been able to get to work. I understand that the kids in twn had a snowball fight on the town green.

G'day back at ya, Bronnie! We're surviving just fine at least for the moment. I'm watching The Weather Channel now to find out how much more snow we're to get Tues. PM/Wed. All I've heard so far is 'significant accumulation'. Thought I heard one of the local weather people last night say another 1-2 FEET! I'd love to go ballooning after one of these storms. Right now 1 of the balloons is at the inspection station and the other is 'out of inspection'. We'll trade balloons at the inspector's as soon as the first one is done - hopefully today or tomorrow. But ballooning just after a snow storm is amazing. The air is crystal clear so you can see forever and it's really cool to just drop down to the ground and leave a big square imprint in the snow and take back off again. You get to make people wonder what happened since there are no footprints to or from the spot! I do know friends of ours have flights scheduled Valentine's Day weekend (next weekend) and we have some scheduled in April so far I believe.

Sorry to hear you're having such a wet summer. And warm - Yikes! Hopefully that will all abate soon for you.

I have 5 quilting projects in various stages at the moment. That's alot for me. Plus I spent the last 2 weeks quilting with the third graders of my niece's class. It's an annual project for the school. Amazes me that most of the other parent-type volunteers have no clue how to do anything more than thread a needle and tie a knot. At least that was a help. Very cute projects and the kids did a great job. My niece opted to make a pillow; sewed all seams by hand; and it all held together! The same could not be said of some of the others. Aunt Kim had some repair work to do as homework. Will probably do the same thing again in 3 years when the next niece hits that grade.

Give our best to Franklin and stay dry.

I would be happy to ship you some of the 33 inches I have on the ground here just West of Pittsburgh, PA. We're to get 5 inches more Monday, and this area has simply run out of places to put it. I missed three days of work last week because I couldn't get off the hill I live on. Then when I did finally get to work Friday, there was no place to park. I ended up in the supermarket parking lot down the street, hoping they didn't tow me. The boro and the local cement company teamed up with a front loader and three construction-sized dump trucks to haul snow out of the streets in the business district. Too bad they didn't get to my leased parking place in the public lot!

On the bright side, I have nearly finished piecing (except for the outer borders) a scrappy-flowers lap-sized quilt. Went to JoAnn Fabrics today and bought a beautiful black with giant dark red roses cotton for the backing and binding. Also bought some red, tan, and blue pieces with stars for a patriotic table-topper for my next project.
