OT Snow

Today is April 7th and I woke up to SNOW on the lawn and the trees!! This is absolutely, totally OUT of character here. In fact, we had not had any snow all winter, except a dusting two times. So, we can't plant the flats of petunias we have waiting on the porch. Gee, I hope this doesn't kill them off. OTOH, the snow sure will dampen down the pollen dust that has played havoc with me! PAT, dreaming of a White Easter in Virginia!

We've been in the 70s and 80s during the day for several weeks now with nighttime lows in the 50s and 60s. All our flowers are starting to bloom or have big fat buds on them. The past few nights have been in the mid twenties and highs in the 40s and low 50s. I went outdoors to feed our Buttercup cat this morning and I touched the Bleeding Heart flowers. They were frozen solid as little pink rocks. I think we lost everything last night- all the flowers were ready to go.... then this evil cold snap. And I can't wear my pretty Easter dress to church tomorrow. I'd freeze to death in a sleeveless dress with a flimsy jacket- and it just would not look right with a winter coat over it! LOL This just isn't FAIR! I thought spring had sprung.... wrong! Sorry you're having snow..... bummer. The weather gets stranger every year....

Here in "Big D," there is a freeze warning from tonight until tomorrow afternoon. It is 37 here now with a wind chill of 29. The news last night was showing shoppers going to the stores to buy long sleeve shirts and jeans to wear to Easter services. We are leaving for Georgia on Tuesday, and can't decide what kind of clothes to take. I think we are taking 2 pairs of shorts, and the rest will be long pants and long sleeve shirts. I think the temps are supposed to be in th 60's while we are there. It is supposed to be in the low 70's here on Monday.

And we can't remember an Easter Bank Holiday weekend like this one: warm, sunny, dry, almost cloudless skies and just a gentle breeze. I usually wear my longest wool coat to church at Easter. Tomorrow it will be a jacket at the most! We have quite often had snow at Easter in the ten years we have lived in this place. As you say, very strange. Sorry about your flowers though. That is heartbreaking. . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

so good to be on the west coast! It was 78 yesterday, here in Seattle, apparently hotter than a lot of the south.

Actually it was too hot, we were totally unprepared, wearing the wrong clothes etc.

My DD called us from Portsmouth,VA this a.m. - she had snow also! They say it may snow up here tonight also (but we're up north in Maine where April snows aren't all that unusual. If we put the Easter eggs out for a "hunt" tomorrow - guess they'd better be BRIGHTLY dyed! LOL (in sympathy for you ) ME-Judy

Remember those berry bushes I was moaning about?

They came in, went in the ground, and I covered them with plastic in case of frost. Just about exactly 8 days later (one day past the extended weather forcast I had been checking...grrrr) it snowed. It has not stopped snowing either. I had to take the plastic off so it didn't crush the bushes. We are under a lake effect snow warning, and it does not look like we have the possibility of warmer weather until next Wednesday or Thursday at soonest. Of course my Wonder of Staffa asters came in today's mail and the postman just put the box on the porch without ringing the bell. Just the very thing, put a box prominently labled live plants in the snow next to the door and toddle off without a care. (grrrr again) I am so glad I have been waiting for the rose I want to come back into stock at Chamberlee's.

NightMist and the handyijit scarred up the upstairs floor (I refinished recently by hand) today too....grr grr grrr!

Yes, we had a glorious day today, with the town packed with Easter tourists enjoying a day at the seaside. They were coming in a continuous stream - goodness knows where they all parked. We had a cake and book stall as a fundraiser for our Flower Arranging Club from 10am and had sold half our stock by 10 past 10 and made a record amount.

Despite the sunshine and the very pleasant temperatures, I saw one girl in snow boots and a really thick padded coat, but makes a change from the bare midriffs that appear in the middle of winter!

We, too had snow, here in Southeastern Kentucky, temps dropped down in the teens last night, I said I feel sorry for the children that got new Easter outfits that are sleeveless or short sleeves and those pretty white shoes about every little girl gets for Easter, they won't even be seen in the snow. I just noticed a little while ago we still have snow flurries here.

It's been something like 20 C here - and warmer than most parts of Spain. So it's been t-shirts during the day, and a t-shirt and sweatshirt to cycle home in. I no longer have to wear a fleece hat under my cycle helmet - a true sign that Spring is here!

Pat, now you should know, just like in MD, if you don't like the weather,......just wait a minute!!

Larisa, not shocked at all by the snow, MD native, but have lived in VA before as well....I just accept it with a shrug..painful today because my back went out on me, but..what're we gonna do?? However, this does mean that DD will be wearing a turtleneck and cableknit tights under her easter dress!!

Same here in SE Kansas. We had snow Thursday. Really cold today and down to 17 tonight. I promised my niece last week that she could swim tomorrow. The pool water is thick it's so cold. And I had the AC on Wednesday.

On the bright side, I didn't have to clean out my freezer to find room for my container of Fuzzy Navel slushes that I am serving for brunch tomorrow. I just set the container out on the deck.

I went to church this evening and it was more like Christmas eve than Easter eve. No spring dresses, just winter coats.

Bah!

Even warmer than yesterday today - I was down at the seafront at 9.00 for the Sunday newspaper and only just managed to find a parking space near the shop (too far to walk and I wobble on my bike!)

Town already busy with tourists - odd people tourists - the locals don't go to buy their newspaper in their dressing gown and slippers! On Tuesday when the holiday ends we will be back to normal until the next one in May.

Now going to garden in tee shirt and jeans (no shorts until I lose a bit more weight - not because I am concerned what I look like in shorts, but the buttons wont button!

Happy Easter everyone. Here in the north pole of New Brunswick we are in the middle of a blizzard, no church service and eveything is closed. This is an unusual Easter. Nice quilting weather lol. I'm still in ragquilt mode and I love it. Dixie in NB.

Got the shelving up yesterday and the kidlets are helping 'unpack' some today, SIL will a bit more on Wed, and a cousin will help 'finish up' a week from now. YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!! And all I gotta do is 'say where'.

((Pati, I still want your help on the chair that we spoke of WHEN you are able. It's not a 'gotta do' just a 'wanna do'))

With all this talk of snow, I am almost wishing I was there. We are trying to wait to turn the AC on. Temps are running about

10° above normal, into the 90s. It is hot and the drought continues. Have had one brushfire, hope we don't have a lot of fires this summer.
