OT - some healing thoughts and prayers for my QI

Hi all,

I have had a very upsetting night. My beautiful greyhound Winston hell and severely broke his right fore leg. The bones are smashed and he will require an operation to either fix it or amputate it or even, the worst, be sent to Rainbow Bridge.

I have been crying all night since it happened and I cant imagine him not being here.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I will keep Winston in my thoughts and prayers. Healing thoughts from me and gentle purrs from Dora and Kay-Cee are winging their way across the waters.

There is a lot they can do for animals these days. My Georgia and her bad knee had me pretty upset. I think the cold bothers her where they fixed that trick knee but she has a pretty high quality of life. I'll be sending good thoughts for you and Winston. Hugs, Taria

Di, I hoping that the surgery will be wildly successful. If he does require amputation, many dogs live very happy lives with only three legs. My fingers are crossed that the Bridge won't be the answer here. {{{Hugs}}}

Thankyou everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers.

Winny slept very well last night, I didn't. I was up early to see to him and he hadn't moved all night. He hasn't eaten yet but has had some water. Vet has given me some strong painkillers

My daughter rang me today and said that she was going to ring another Vet (not that we don't like our regular but they don't do ops) so hopefully he will be operated on this week.

I am still very upset and crying, I hate seeing him in bandages and splint - poor baby can't walk very well and I have to carry him down the stairs for him to relieve himself which he hasn't done yet.

Thanks for your concerns.

Okay now, let's get a grip. The upset and crying isn't going to help anything. Kidneys that can't function aren't good. Take that sweet baby down to his favorite tinkling spot, let him sniff it as needed and support his body matter-of-factly so he can relieve himself. When our Yorkie had a crushed hip, I spent many a time helping him get his business done. Stifle your hysterics, will you? You are only upsetting Winston. He knows you're upset and it only confuses and pains him more. He needs you to be supportive; you can be a whiney-pot when all is well. Tough love from Polly

Di, try to make a soft, wide 'sling' to put around Winston behind his front legs and help him 'walk' once you get him outside. Sometimes if you hold the front end that will help him keep his hind legs moving; at least he'll think he's walking. Still keeping you both in my prayers. rusty

I don't like tough love but I have to admit I am trying it on my daughters who are hysterical and they don't live at home any more. I guess we are just a big family of sooks who over love their QIs. I think I am upset because they are so sad about Winny/

I have been much better today and so has Winny - he is off to the new Vet tomorrow so hopefully will have some news tomorrow night.

I know, DiMa. I'm about as tough as a bowl of Jell-o; they wouldn't want me in the nursing field. Crying louder than your patients is just not okay. Polly

Oh, Di...so sorry to hear of Winston's injury. Keep calm and do try to help him in his business as much as possible. i had to do that for my Crikit, she couldnt walk in the end and had to be carried everywhere. She weighed 50 lbs...less towards the end, but still heavy. The sling idea is a good one.

Keeping you and Winston in my thoughts and prayers that the surgery is a success.
