OT - test results

Here's the Do Not Eat list from my food allergy test. Almonds, asparagus, lima beans, cheddar, cottage, & swiss cheese, coconut, corn, eggs, garlic, gluten, grapes, malt, cow's milk, oats, peas, peanuts, pineapple, rye, sesame, soy, spinach, tomato, black walnuts, wheat, yogurt.

Okay then. The new diet begins!

That list is staggering. I reckon you may have to carry it around with you for years. Looks like you can have a green salad, steak and chocolate with pecans. Throw in an onion for a snack. This is what I'm wondering - assuming that you can absolutely avoid all of the listed foods - can you plan to feel great? or better? or what? Polly

I can plan to stop itching, and probably have more energy since I'll be giving my immune system a break. : )

Hey, Karen, that sounds soooooo good. I'm sure the 'not knowing' was equally as aggravating as the itching. Polly

As long as there isn't any milk, soy, etc.....

Karen, I feel your pain...frustration....challenge. I'm dealing with some of this myself. Big hugs headed your way.

Can't eat them at all, or only in small quantities. I think I'd have a hard time with that list.

That is going to be some work but I sure hope you are able to eat what works and get to feeling better. Is there any chance a nutritionist can help you? Here we are trying to eat low fat and also deal with ulcerative colitis problems for one. I sure could use some help sometimes. There are lots of alternatives these days and thankfully foods are well labeled. Taria

Remember, I am NOT a medical doctor, however for IBDs, I can recommend (from personal experience) the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (((but

***NOT for KAREN***)))

While no treatment is a panacea, it won't hurt to try it so long as you're not allergic to the foods/recipes recommended.

Can't eat them at all for three months. Then add one every ten days or so and see how I do.

Gee, Karen, this diet is going to be a bit challenging. Best of luck with your new 'eating program' and may it help with all the troubles your poor body has been throwing at ya!

Amen to that. ALL of that. The good thing is they tested me for 200 foods, and the whole list was given to me, with the ones I can't have in red. So I can see all kinds of things to choose from that I can eat. It's still a challenge, yes. Bob is helping me think it through when I get overwhelmed. I just HAVE to stop itching! My immune system is trashed already from being on prednisone for way to long. But at least we have a plan now. :)

A plan is good. And if you already cook mostly from raw ingredients, it'e easier to adapt. I have a sister who has to exclude lactose (rather than all milk products), gluten, almost all fats, red meat, most alcoholic drinks, coffee, anything with artificial sweetners and orange colourings, and a whole bunch of medicines (all analgesics and disalgesics to start with!). She still eats well, but we have to pick the restaurants carefully when we take her out!

I'm not that bad, but it gets awkward at times when the innards and the skin are both playing up together...

I keep you in my thoughts. It isn't easy, but you will get there.

Karen, hang in there. If it works then you'll be miles ahead soon and you won't even be thinking about almonds and soy. Keep us posted. Everybody here just wants you to feel better. :)
