OT Texas has such heart

This hurricane has been so much worse than Katrina for so many. One of the heart-hurting problems is that evacuating if you have a pet is tough. Most motels and hotels ( IF you can find a vacancy within 200 miles) will Not accept a QI ... some if the pet is 10 lbs or less ... and most shelters are just not equipped to take them in. Just nobody has a big heart like Texas. They are taking in pets from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana whose families HAD to evacuate and Could Not take their best friends with them. Mr. Esther and I are still able to take in a few and we do; even a rather cranky old fellow who wasn't used to strangers ( roasted turkey won him over). I know rctq is not my personal platform for thank you's - but how wonderful the hearts of the Texans are. God's blessings surely do arrive in surprising ways. Polly

Texas definitely has big hearts (witness what they did after Katrina, even though they were hard hit, too), but I suspect yours is just as large, if not larger. :)

Rescue locally is really something to see. The church vans are evacuating people to the high school gym where they can take a shower. Of course the school isn't a 'government shelter' or the Red Cross - so good neighbors are out collecting towels and soap. The real shelter is packed to capacity, the stores are underwater and parts of the highway are too. Polly

Howdy! Texans welcomed 2-footed QIs as well, during this hurricane & many others. At least one of the local "news" channels introduced us to some of the visiting pets. Texas is a big place; every body's welcome.

Cheers! R/Sandy
