OT The perfect gift for the Mad Scientist in your life

or the generic evil genius. Sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads.

Gotta go with the classics.

Gotta love legos -- but they have gotten terribly expensive. Not the gift for the "middle class" anymore -- when a kit the size of your two fists costs $30!

We shifted from Legos to Construx when my guys were little because construx had motors and more versatility. Not long after -- Lego expanded their line.

My last lego purchase... Hogwarts Castle... which ended up going to charity.

The sharks are cute tho!

The boxes of bricks are still MUCH better value than the themed kits.

When we visit my parents the boys play with my old lego - still going strong after mmmmph years.

This kit is about $75 - just using the current exchange rate. No idea what it retails for in the US.

DS was the lego guy here. He is 27 now but recently found the lego store at the mall on the way home from my house. He was so excited to see all the cool stuff. Hopefully he will have at least one son some day. I have huge buckets full of his legos sets just waiting. His were predominately emergency sets. I remember dh would come home from work some summer days and the kids and I would be in the depths of legoland. We could play all day with that stuff. Not a lot of motors and such in those days but oh they were fun. I'd probably buy the $30 set if that is what was asked for. Pinch pennies somewhere else as I could. Taria

Depending on where you find it, as low as US42, and the highest I have seen is US75.

Way too much for a small auxiliary set IMO.

Maybe the US got the ill-tempered sea bass version.

We never had legos growing up, but I do recall the Lincoln Logs and the erector set. All of that paled when I started designing/building my to-scale barns and farmhouses using my grandpa's old hand tools.
