OT: today's house issues

Have contacted a lawyer that I know very well and informed of what is going on. Said lawyer contacted the lawyer for the people that bought the house in NY. According to that lawyer, we left the NY house "totally trashed" and the buyers want us to pay for everything. Now, you know (since i posted here) and i know that I went over, scrubbed the house from top to bottom, then steam cleaned the carpets in each room as the rooms were emptied. The employees of the moving company were there and were laughing about me doing it when, as they said, the new owners would just want to clean it themselves. However, they are 3 witnesses to the fact that I *did* steam clean the carpeting. The attorney that I contacted said that he should be receiving pictures from the buyers atotrney to show the condition of the house, I asked that they be forwarded to me.

DH and I had reached an agreement prior to learning about this latest issue - because we knew that there wasn't proper drainage for the sump pump, we would be willing to pay for proper drainage to be done, provided they give us a minimum of 3 estimates - we would pay for the lowest of the 3.

The carpeting, I refuse to budge on, and like I siad, can produce 3 non-interested/non-related parties to testify that they saw me cleaning it on the day the boxes were loaded on the truck.

The buyers attorney is also stating that we were not out of the house on MOnday as per our agreement. Well, yes, we were, but not by 5pm because the moving crew was short by 1 person and 3 people can't do the work of

4....remember that they only sent 2 people to pack when there should have been at least 3, so on the day that the truck was being loaded, 1 person had to finish paperwork, the other 2 were loading things in the truck, but then they had to finish packing up the garage before they could load that.

I also can get in touch with our junk hauler who came to get the remaining things from the house and who would more than likely be willing to verify that yes, I had completely cleaned out the house (he was griping about how much stuff I had for him to pick up, but it was done in good humor).

So, now I am sitting here, fuming and waiting to see these pictures, frustrated because the contract is signed and we aren't legally responsible for anything more than what we knew about (pump drainage), worried because my DD is running a fever (103.5 this morning, now down to a more normal temp), DS took his first dose of homeopathic remedy, DH still doesn't have concrete diagnosis as to what is going on with him (did I mention that he requested a mono test and the doctor didn't put that request in?? He has an ultrasound of his kidneys today and will be having more bloodwork done, INCLUDING the mono test this morning). I need this crap like I need a hole in the head....

Really want to go up there and kick some idiot ass over this, but that's not conducive to anything right now.

My first thought when I read this was.....(if this is offensive to my UK friends, I apologize) "Bugger off!" I guess I've been watching "Calendar Girls" on cable too much. That is NOT a phase in my usual vocabulary. But I really like it!

I'm off to a quilt show. The one with the last minute location change. I'll know the show chairmwomen by the bags under their eyes. Poor dears...but I think it all will be fine.
