OT what shall we wear?

My sister is crazy. I know you're not surprised. Both of us love weddings and are looking forward to the Royal one. But . . . at 4 a.m.? DS is always appropriately dressed and we suspect that she puts on full makeup before taking a shower. She always looks like what Grandmother called 'just stepped out of a bandbox'. ( Anyone know what a bandbox is or why she'd get into one?) So. DS tells me that she's not going to miss one minute of the wedding and that she's chosen a turquoise nightgown with ivory lace by J C Penny for the occasion. I'll be wearing my men's size XL black silk t-shirt and boxers by Winter Silks. We are so looking forward to seeing Kate's wedding gown. Please. Can we hope that it is not going to be one more white strapless? We're ready for her to set a new trend. And you? Will you be up for the wedding? And have you selected your ensemble? Polly

I, too, hope her dress will not be one of the ubiquitous white strapless. (Wouldn't you think every bride would want to look different? but these days ... ...). Anyway - of course for us the build-up will start at the reasonable time of 8 or 8.30 (depending on the TV channel), so I can wear usual indoor clothes; but the number of layers depends on the weather. It has been so warm lately that it will probably cool down this week. It will be a TV morning ! . In message , Polly Esther writes

England, April, Big stone cathedral - I shouldn't think she's gone for a strapless. Too chilly. Now I have to admit we have just been having a run of absolutely gorgeous weather, but back when she planned it she would (I hope) have been thinking of the possibility of April showers.

As to my own outfit - shorts & t-shirt if the weather is nice, jeans & sweatshirt if it isn't. Not having received a gilt edged invitation and having the boys to look after it will be "come as you are" round here.

We are having a neighbourhood bunfight later in the day :-)

As a loyal citizen of HM Queen Elizabeth II's Great Britain, I shall be Doing Something Else on Friday! I'll wait for some good pix of the dress to ogle later: it affects me only because the damned thing will influence wedding gowns for the next 10 years, and therefore some of the work I do. I wish them well, but that's the only interest I have in the whole shebang.

In the garden with some crop trowziz, and old T shirt, a dog, and the secateurs, up in the loft sorting the crap out, or helping to lay concrete for a shed base, I suspect...

Similar dress here: we have our usual guests for the May Bank Holiday as it's the Rochester Sweeps festival: three days of wall-to-wall Morris dancers! :D We usually go on the Saturday, out to visit something on Sunday, and to the pub for a leisurely lunch on the Monday. Not changing the habit of 20+ years for this...

We are also in avoidance mode. The telly will be back-to-back boring, "And he said... and she said" stuff. I don't GIVE a stuff! It'll be worse next year when we get the Olympics. Can I emigrate, please?

And two Bank Holidays, followed by two Bank Holidays, who thought that one up as a good idea? I need offices to be OPEN, and people WORKING.

I hate this sort of thing, with all this pretentious, false patriotism. And I have great respect for those who are trying to do their exams in the midst of it all. Enjoy the Sweeps. One day we'd like to come join you...

Bah Humbug!

As we're just getting the new puppy to sleep through the night - if he's sleeping at 4AM, I'll be as well.

Here in California the coverage will start at 1AM. Okay, I have insomnia and never sleep through the night. Perhaps the wedding will be a good sleeping pill for me. I am not planning on being able to respond to any questions at work about the event.

Won't be watching it here, I'll be busy thinking of quilts in Paducah! But I do remember MSM waking me up to go to Grandma's to watch Charles and Diana's wedding. My Barbie doll wore wedding gowns constantly for weeks after.

I have set the DVR, but I am often up at that time, and if I am I shall be wearing my birthday suit as I usually sleep that way. I know, TMI, but if I'm dressed I shall be attired in T-shirt, shorts and bare feet, my usual house wear. Bonnie, in Middletown, VA

I was thinking of you, Kate, and was hoping that The Gown was something that you would simply love creating for your beautiful brides. It could happen. Polly

I'll be in daytime apparel, since we're an hour *later* than the actual wedding. (Although it might interfere with my afternoon nap.) Maybe a tea gown -do I need gloves? I can eat M&Ms with gloves, right?

A bandbox is what you used to get from the dress sh>My sister is crazy. I know you're not surprised. Both of us love weddings

Hey polly

Didn't think you would be so dressed up for the wedding. Gown and all. Well I'll be in blue and white plaid pj's. for the early morning event. This will be my third Royal Wedding. After the wedding I will change attire to T-shirt, jeans and boots, oh and my famous blue denim hat, for a day of fishing. Might go set some pots for blue crabs down by the Silver Slipper Casino. Then in the evening I will be putting on a butcher's apron for gutting fish and cleaning crab. Don't know what the menu will be for the wedding dinner, but mine will be fish, crab, salad and strawberry torte. Come on ladies, we have to wear hats, no wedding is complete without hats. :>)

Oh I expect Kate, and probably myself as well, will be asked to recreate the darned thing for somebody with more pretensions than sense. You get somebody who wants this or that dress recreated every year or so. You give them an estimate and a time frame, revive them, and then try to talk some sense into them while they try to haggle.

One of my current fervent wishes is that she goes with an old fashioned lace veil and minimal train. Or at least not a freaking 25 foot train that nobody will actually want but will constantly ask you to "get the look of".

On that one O always think of the disgusting crystal-infested knee-length corset that Versace made for Victoria Beckham: I got asked to copy it. Lass was shocked at the 32500+ sticker I put on it. I gently pointed out that the real thing probably had another whole zero on the end!

Or a plain tulle veil like my mums:

I really can't imagine how you two deal with wedding dresses. Well. Not the dresses, the brides. About once a year I agree to make a little bit of a change to a bridal gown. Every time I wish I'd stayed further away from the bridal hysterics. They sure are explosive. Polly

A hat? We gotta wear a hat? I think there's an old curler bonnet in the drawer where I keep scarves and belts; hardly ever open it but I'll look. Polly

If I had a TV and actually knew when this event was happening (sometime next weekend? dunno the day) I'd be putting on my green Mohawk wig and have a stack of rubber bricks to throw at the screen.

Might be worth a trip to Harvey Nicks to see if Louis Vuitton makes sickbags.
