OT: when businesses cash check but dont apply it

It seems to me that if a business cashes my payment check, but fails to credit my account for it, *they* should have to pay for my bank's charges to get a front and back copy. It was the businesses fault that my account wasn't credited. But the business always refuses. How can I get the party who dropped the ball to pay for the cost to prove that I was not at fault in the least? It's not just a business I can stop patronizing, it's my health insurance company!

Have you thought of having the Better Business Bureau investigate or check with your state government for an insurance commissioner and file a complaint with them. A lot of insurance companies in the past several years have been caught taking their customers money and letting the insurance coverage lapse.

Or, perhaps you could make a copy of the check before you mail it, along with a copy of the bank statement showing a matching entry for the cleared check.
