OT: Wish me luck with new QI

Against all better judgment and with reluctant okay from my darling, long-s= uffering husband, I adopted a dog today. He's about 6 months old, a little = blond curly-wiry haired terrier mix. He was found wandering along the highw= ay up north and brought to the shelter and nobody claimed him. He doesn't h= ave a name yet, and won't come home until tomorrow after he's neutered. He'= s smart as a whip, likes to be held, but also likes to romp and play. His k= ennel was totally clean and he widdled as soon as I took him onto the grass= , so keeping my fingers crossed that he's at least savvy about going outsid= e as opposed to just wherever he happens to be standing. I didn't mean to g= et one so soon or a boy dog at all, or ... but I fell in love. Couldn't hel= p myself.

Wish me luck, Sunny

My personal belief is that the best way to honor a beloved pet who has gone to Rainbow Bridge is to give another deserving pet a forever home. Congrats on your new love and may you have many joy-filled years together.

I am so happy for you, Sunny. Some of us have a big empty place in our homes and hearts that just must be filled with a furry face. Just must. Leslie put it better than I can. OTOH, you are really IN for it with a 6 month-old terrier. While you're waiting from him, I reckon you better walk around the house and remove anything that might be attractively edible or chewable. He just may be very interested in cords that run to computers, spare (or not) rolls of toilet tissue or a potted palm in the foyer. We babysit a 6 month-old terrier often and it's Quite Exciting. Congratulations to all of you! I cannot imagine my life without my critter= s, all of whom are rescues of one sort or another. First was Clara (RIP)wh= o was a 50 pound who-knows-what girl born with a deformed front leg, ankle,= and foot whose mother rejected her a birth. She got around very well, but= wasn't fast enough to catch a squirrel. Then came Molly (RIP)who was an 1=

1 year old Yorkie whose human died and whose family thought they would have= Molly destroyed since nobody wanted her. She came to live with me instead= and lived to age 15, with heart murmer, arthritis, cataracts, and collapsi= ng trachea but with a sweet disposition and gentle manner. As of now, I ha= ve Adele, a lovely tuxedo cat who was dumped near my sister's house and jus= t needed a home and who views her life's work as professional power-napping= . I also share my home with Winston, a maybe-a-puggle who just wants atten= tion and loves to snuggle. Winston apparently had a very miserable life be= fore being dumped at the local pound, but after a year with me has found th= at nobody is going to yell at him or beat him ever again. He is a treasure= . So -- enjoy your new QI! He is truly a gift to you, and you are a gift = to him.

I am so glad you are able to welcome a new pooch into your life Sunny. Hope you all get along and he is healthy and lives long. Leslie, I once had a psychic tell me my old Lea sent Georgia to me. Now, I don't know if that is true or not but it is a very sweet thought. ; ) Best of luck to you always Sunny. Taria

Sonny my 5 yr dauchund still loves to chew, so I always keep some rawhide chews I get from the pet department for when he gets boared. There are probably 4 or 5 laying on his dog bed right now. And I always keep a few in the car because he enjoys riding, but alwaus wants something in his mouth! Barbara in FL

I love the "new dog in the house" phase. Getting to know each other and building bonds that last forever. Lucky pup to be adopted.

Well, everybody in the house is mad at me. They are all still too sad about= Jo and really not ready for a new pup. But I am. And I'm the one home all = day, alone, and wishing for a little sprite to talk to and walk and play wi= th. This little boy is so sweet. I suspect he'll win everybody's hearts soo= n. And I'm happy. So ... I'm thinking of calling him Stash. I mean, what's = better to a quilter? Although that might raise some eyebrows from non-quilt= ers. Spike is the name in first place right now, followed closely by Mack. = I am happy and I feel like I did the right thing. It's hard to stay sad wit= h a new life in the house to nuzzle and hold and teach. Sometimes I look at= my three men and just am struck by how much more open a woman's heart typi= cally is, not just to joy but to the hard, sad things. We embrace it all an= d then move on, not forgetting what's lost but finding joy in what's found.= Or maybe I'm just generalizing from my household.

Anyhow, like I said, wish me luck. I'm puppy-proofing the house. He can't c= ome in the sewing room until I finish the big clean-up, but that's okay. Th= e rest of the house will keep him pretty busy, I predict.

I remember well that unsupported feeling. Nobody wanted another dog but me. Yogi took care of that in less than a blink. Bounded over to Mr. Esther as soon as he set eyes on him and wagged "I'll take You." And so he did. Yogi respects me as the alpha dog (?) but thinks DH is his very best friend and soul mate. Go figure. Polly

It's okay -- they're all in love with the little tyke. Now we just have to find his name.

LOL. I was just waiting/wanting that to happen. FWIW, doesn't matter much what you name him. "Yogi" is cute but the pure truth is, I think he thinks his name is "Here puppy". Which reminds me of a t-shirt we gave DDIL who loves horses. It sports a picture of a beautiful horses' face and says, "My name is Whoa, Dammit". Polly
