Pfaff machine

Hi, I'm in a quandry and thought maybe one of you would know. I picked up Mom's Pfaff 2124 and took it to the local Pfaff shop hoping they would take it on consignment and sell it for me so I wouldn't have to fly it back home with me. The woman there curtly informed me that it was the worst machine Pfaff made and was almost immediately replaced with a better machine that everyone then upgraded to. She said the machine wouldn't sell for enough to make it worth my time to bother.

So here is my quandry: do any of you know if what she says is so? Should I just give it to a charity group? I have a Pfaff 7570, which apparently is sort of the gold standard of their brand.

What do you think? If I fly it back, either I buy a $159 tote to take it as a carryon or I have it shipped, which would cost not much less.

And I'm so confused right now that it's a wonder I can get myself dressed in the morning. I'd appreciate any info you can help me with. My computer time is limited and I don't really have the energy to do a deep Google search. The first one I tried t urned up almost nothing. So....... g rrrrr.

Thank you, Sunny

Sunny I just looke on e-bay and did not see any pfaff sewing machines at all. I have a Pfaff 1471 (1985) and the last time I saw one they were asking around $350 for it. Sorry there was not one listed. Barbara in SC

No idea, Sunny. Just wish I could give that woman a swift kick in the pants for being so ugly. Holding you close, Polly

I'm with Polly, it's amazing how rude sales people can be and for what reason? Geesh there are much nicer ways of saying things. Hey - let's both kick her.

I can't believe that it would cost anywhere near $159 to ship it! Have you called UPS, Mailboxes Etc.., or the equivalent to find out? They ship all kinds of comparably "fragile" stuff.

Nann whose trusty Pfaff is a lot older, so can't say anything for or against the model you have

I was so busy wanting to kick that person with the ugly attitude I missed the $ 159 entirely. That's not true. I've paid the shipping for my SMs and the UPS fee was about $50. Polly

I've taken machines as a carry on in totes that were a lot less than $159. All you need is a regular wheeled carry on and wrap it so it doesn't get munched, maybe just a blanket or something. You don't need any special sewing tote to use to get it on the plane.

This is one thing I found on the machine:

Hi Denise,

I own the Pfaff 2124 and love it. The machine is in the mid-range and sews beutifully. The only problem I have is now that I have an embroidery machine I'm addicted. I wish I would have saved my money and purchased the 2170 machine (top of the line and the most evensive). If you can, my advise is to wait for the better machine because once you buy an embroidery machine you'll love it and you'll wish your machine could do more.

-Melissa

Melissa, did you buy you 2124 recently? I work for a Pfaff dealer in NY and my boss will give a full credit trade-in if you upgrade within a year. Maybe a Pfaff dealer in your area does the same. The 2170 is such an amazing machine. When I started working there, I didn't think anyone who spend so much on a residential embroiderer. Boy was i wrong. We have ladies in their

60's and 70's buying it and bringing in their machines for classes.

Hi Sunny - Not sure where you're getting your shipping quotes, but I do believe that UPS can ship it for a lot cheaper than $159. I bought a heavy, old Singer on Ebay last year, and to ship it from Wisconsin to Seattle was $38. I vote you ship it home, then decide what to do with it - don't let the rude sales person discourage you.

It shouldn't cost anywhere near that much. In January I sent a treadle cabinet and a set of treadle irons in two very well-packed wardrobe cartons from PA to Montana by UPS. The total weight was something like

85 or 90 pounds and it cost $147 and change.

Maybe you could pack it in a foam ice chest to cut back on the packing material cost.?? Barbara in SC

What a truly great idea! I am sending my DSD a machine and that is a great way to pack it!

I think there is a Pfaff group on Yahoo. You may find good advice there. I had a Pfaff 1221 SE and loved it enough to upgrade to the 7570, but that was ten years ago. I don't know about 2124 but I do like Pfaff. Pat

Sunny, I am replying both directly to you and to the group. I went up and checked at the Pfaff dealership up the street. The

2124 has been upgraded to the 2134. The 2124 is being closed out at well under the retail price.... in fact the guy I talked to said if someone offered him $1200 for a new one he'd probably take it to get rid of them. They are not a bad machine, just a fairly low end machine with not too many stitches but with hooped embroidery capability. So they are having trouble selling these older, basic models. sigh.

Best way to sell it probably Craig's List asking for around $1000 and hoping to get it.

If you decide to take it back with you, find a box to pack it in. Pack it well, you can even use fabric as padding . Tape it up well, and include a "handle" as you tape it. (Or be ready to tape it at the airport.) And ship it as an extra "bag". Yes you will have to pay for it, but probably cheaper than shipping it.

I hope things are going better for you, and do contact Hospice of the Valley..... they are a non profit and everyone I know who has dealt with them says good, positive things about them. And they will work with your financial situations, insurance, Medicare and so forth.

Pati, in Phx hoping you get a brief chance to take a break for a meet up sometime. If not, we understand.
