Pat, my dearest sister, with this info, you can see a tree skirt and exactly how it is made. Everybody else- this is a free PFP pattern for a *gorgeous* tree skirt. I can't get the link to the pattern to work, so go to this link, under the dark blue square is "Swirling Branches tree skirt". Then click on "Download attached PDF of pattern". And there ya go!

Thanks Leslie - isn't it pretty! Now I truly understand what you all meant - though I did have a pretty good idea! just couldn't understand why my suggested label positioning cause Polly such a problem >g< . In message , Leslie& The Furbabies in MO. writes

What a beautiful skirt, Leslie. Mine are not nearly so grand. Our dear Tom cat presumed that a Christmas tree was a tanning bed purely for his personal holiday spa treatments. Polly

It is stunning and I want to make one! However, here in DK we don't use tree skirts, but rather a tree rug, that is something that sits on the floor underneath the tree stand and the tree.

Anyone have any idea if this pattern would provide something that can just be sewn together without the opening and lay flat? Or would there be a slim wedge missing in providing a full circle?

Thanks, Hanne in DK

If you look at the layout design, there's a bit missing from the "candy cane" section where the opening is. IMO if you just made 5 identical candy cane sections, it would probably lie flat.

Well, personally I don't have a stand right now (had a cheap plastic one before I moved, way too big for my current place, so it didn't move with me). But the rest of my family have some very nice tree stands that my Dad made - think Hunter's Star made out of nice wood. So, you see why covering up the stand would be a problem :-)
