question about an ebay item

my tech, whom I am teaching how to quilt, was looking for patterns she likes and saw this one online:

do you guys think this is really 1900s? The fabrics look modern to me, but I have been wrong before....

(BTW, her first project is a nine patch...

I'm NOT an expert in antique quilts or fabrics... but just looking at it... it doesn't "LOOK" like a typical 100 year old quilt. The fabrics as a whole are just too vivid. I would think that at least some of them would have faded over the years. They may have been a 90 year old woman's mother-in-laws... but that doesn't mean they might not have been made in the

60's?

I dunno... doesn't look right to me. Will anxiously wait for other opinions.

By "early 1900s", she might mean anything up to about pre-WWII. No info on construction techniques -she ought to ask before buying. I have a couple of quilts from that period (made by my great-grandmama), and they aren't anything like this bright. IMO the backing looks right though. But I'm no expert! Roberta in D

Howdy!

That red fabric is not early 1900s but it is most likely from sometime in the 1900s, perhaps 1999. The red calico on blue looks like 1960s. Others appear to be 1970-1995. A quilt is only as old as its newest fabric. Her reasoning that an older woman told her the quilt was of a certain age is not a good way to determine the era of a quilt top.

Good for her!

The backing fabric is rather 30s-40s. However that red with the palm trees is more 70s or even 80s than anything else. Those pretty blue flowers are also very 70s (and my mom has it in her stash). The mint green and pale yellow are rather 30s. The lavender flowers are more 70s.

I think it's from the 70s, honestly.
