Question about Applique

I am considering putting together a video to help instruct others to qpplique covering the different applique techniques.

Do you feel this would be helpful and how much would that information be worth to you, (in a dollar amount)?

I would have to agree. I taught myself applique from various internet sites and a book or two. Then I took a class because -- I thought surely there was a trick or two that would improve what I was doing. I didn't learn anything in the class I didn't already know. It isn't hard to learn applique from illustrations -- not for me anyway, and I've tried to learn crochet on my own and can't. Applique is different. I think if you've got patience and love handwork it's pretty easy to learn.

Like the others, I picked it up on my own--after not being able to hand-sew at all. Really, my DH had sewn my buttons on for over 30 years! I did buy a video at one point, to see if there were any tricks or tips, but it didn't feel like money well spent, as there wasn't anything I hadn't seen in magazines or online.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but it's not likely to be worth the time and money and heart you put into making it. Unless, of course, you have a radically new twist and a way to convince people it's really new, different and useful.

I agree with the others who have replied - *unless you can include *all the current (and past) methods in the same video. Last I heard there were twelve or more. Pretty daunting. I would only buy one if it really did have them all, and they were listed. You would probably then have a monopoly, because I don't think there are any single books with them all in. . I have info about appliqué since that's my strength and I've won many awards, on my site and it's all free.

Oh, thanks for this Rita. I didn't realise. I have looked up several things on your site - never thought of investigating appliqué there. I'll be there tomorrow! . In message , Rita writes

And some of us are grateful for it. AND for all the other advice you so freely give. It is greatly appreciated.

Hope you and Martin have a very Blessed Easter and Passover. Think of you often.

Cyberhugs and Butterfly Kisses to both of you

I agree. I'll add one more thing, too. There are lots of CDs and DVDs available these days to show various techniques (whether applique or something else). Unless you have a recognizable "name", you're not likely to have a huge success. Have you won awards in big shows? Are you a teacher who travels and who is "known"? That's not to say that there isn't always room for new people to come in and make a difference -- but unless you garner some fame, people are more likely to buy the products put out by people whose names are more recognizable.
