quilt shop trip

I had a great day yeasterday. Seven quilting friends took a van and went to Berlin, OH to quilt shops. We had a blast. We visited 5 quilt shops around that area. We did a lot of buying, eating, and laughing. It was rainy but I don't think it bothered any of us. Friends are the best.

My guild goes there each fall for a 4 day quilting retreat. We always hit Grandma Fannies, Helping Hands and Miller's Dry Goods.

Not to mention -- lots of yummy things to eat there, too!

So tell us -- what goodies (fabric or otherwise...) did you find?

We found a shop on a farm near Kidron. It is Pine tree Fabric. They had some nice fabric starting at $6.50 a yard. We were driving to Kindron from Berlin and the sign was by the road on Kidron Rd. It's Pine Tree fabric, 12464 Western Rd. Apple Creek, Oh 44606. It's not a fancy shop but nice. Next time we are going to go to Kidron first and stop at hearthside Quilt shop then pine tree, then go to Berlin and the other shops. It was a very rainy day and on the way home we were already planning to go back in the fall. I have been there several times. Five of the girls had never been there, all of them are planning to go back with their famlies and friends. It is onlty about

2hrs and 20 minutes from where we live.

I bought some perriwinkle and green batiks to make a wall hanging for my bedroom and some dark blues and dark reds for Quilts of valor. One girl bought a book for wool applique, I don't know the name of the book. The small group we all belong to is going to make a block a month from it. Another girl bought fabric for QOV's. I remember another bought this really bright yellow and blue for a purse. She uses that stuff you sew on in a grid, it's like saran wrap stuff. Then you heat it and it shrinks the fabric and pukers it. She uses it for the flap on a purse and the large pattern fabric works well for it. We just bought a ton of stuff. The one girl has a small farm so we even hit up Lehman's Hardware. We had Hot dog sticks for a campfire, a straw hat for her husband, she loved the store. Lehman's was floade in Feb. they had 3' of water through out. The have cleared it out and starting to re-stock. How many people go to your retreat and where do you stay?

Sounds like a fun trip! I'm also in PA, but it's 6 hrs. and 45 mins. to Millersburg, OH from where I live....definitely not a day trip! I'm going to keep it in mind, though.
