RCTQ Mystery 2013

I finished step one of the mystery quilt. I had expected it to take a really long time, but I chain pieced, assembly line fashion, and actually finished in just a few hours, spread out over a couple of days. I have them bagged up now, and will be ready in April when the next step comes out. I know we don't have a place to post pictures here, but I did put a picture in my album (Carole Doyle) on the RCTQ group photo files on Facebook, for those who have access to that.

Its a FB 'thing' Roberta. The directions weren't posted here. That is probably why no one has replied, many here don't have FB.

I saw your FB photo, love the colors! But I missed the instructions while I was away. Could somebody pleeeese re-post? Roberta in D

Here are the text instructions:

RCTQ 2013 Mystery Quilt This quilt could be done by creating strips as well at patches. Since many of you asked for something to use up your scraps? I will work with individual patches so you?ll be doing lots of cutting but will be able to use up lots and lots of those scraps. (You may be able to convert to strip piecing if you are using non-scrap fabrics. But I?ll leave that up to you!) You need a background color that will set off your other fabrics. Lots of small pieces and you want your work to show! You can use a single fabric to help unify your quilt? or you can use a variety of fabrics all close together in color (like a bunch of cream/ivory fabrics). The remainder of the quilt can be done fully scrappy or you can work with 3 analogous colors which I will call Color 1 and Colors 2 / 3 which are adjacent. (for example Color 1 = green and Colors 2/3 might be blues/purples or Color 1= greens and Colors 2/3 might be golds/oranges.

So here we go: STEP 1: Cut the following from your background fabric(s): ? 56 squares @ 1 ½? ? 56 rectangles @ 1 ½? x 2 ½? ? 56 rectangles @ 1 ½? x 3 ½? From your colored fabrics: ? Color 1 56 squares @ 1 ½? ? Colors 2/3 56 squares @ 1 ½? (if you are going full out scrappy ? just cut 112 colored squares!) Once you have your pieces cut, you need to sew 28 of the following blocks (14 of each if using Analogous colors). I think they are pretty easy to figure out without further directions? but if you do have questions? you know how to find me! These blocks will be 4 ½? square including seam allowances. Press toward the dark. Be sure to square up your blocks now to make future steps frustration free! Once these are done? pop them in a baggy and mark them Step 1!

[There is a diagram that goes with this, though. The instructions are in the RCTQ group on Facebook in a .pdf and they're still there if you have Facebook access.)

Right! I could e-mail you the .pdf, too. E-mail me at carole doyle at windstream dot net (using the right symbols and eliminating the spaces) and I can e-mail you the file. This is supposed to be a project for all of RCTQ, but the limitations of the newsgroup make it a little hard!!

(((XXX))) Thanks! I looked through FB, but the only mention I could find didn't have a working link. I could look at your photo though, right?

On Facebook, at the top of the page immediately under the pictures of Members it says'Files'. The instructions are in there. This is the first time I've ever looked in there - in fact I didn't even know it existed!

I didn't realize that, either! I just scrolled down until I found the message where it had been posted. That's good to know.

It still doesn't help the people who aren't on Facebook's RCTQ, but I wouldn't mind sending the attachments by e-mail to any RCTQerswho wanted them. I assume Kate wouldn't mind, because this is an RCTQ project. She did say that she wanted people to post photos, and there's a folder for them on Facebooks RCTQ group. But non-members of Facebook could send their pictures to me and I'd be glad to post the pictures for them.

I don't jump over here very often ... but I DEFINITELY want anyone either here or on FB to feel free to join us!

I can email a PDF to those who don't do FB (or try to post here) -- but again -- here will have no pics and future instructions (like this first one) will include some pics.

So if you want to participate and don't do FB -- just let me know.

I'm in the directory or email me ....

you can find me at grovesfam at (insert bogus text here to prevent harvesting) comcast and after that dot net.

Hope you can figure that out.
