Re: interested in a challenge?

SSoooo... here's what I've learned recently about commitment, that will make or break the best of intentions. If you make the commitment

- the more clarity and detail you have the more likely you will be to actually finish what you started. What that means: I will finish a project a month by the 22nd of the month and post the results and/or process on my blog for all my quilting buddies to see. Just the act of posting my intentions so clearly will help me keep moving forward. So, Roberta could decide on a deadline and a project that will develop her dyeing skills...Lizzy's involved in a Yahoo UFO group and already doing this...Kris - if you narrow it down to 5 or less projects like I did, and focus on them, then when they are finished you could focus on a new 5, or 3, or whatever...Allison - yes definitely this would help

- or you could join that UFO group on Yahoo that Lizzy mentioned - either way, everyone who's seriously ready to take on this challenge needs to decide what they want to accomplish, by when. Let us all know so that we can cheer each other on. (:

I think it is the accountability to others that makes the difference for me and helps me to keep moving forward.

I'm all in favour of us cheering each other on and look forward to reading everyone else's progress as it is achieved.

As an example of what I am able to do at the moment: I joined the Yahoo group - and haven't even entered my goals. I'll be so glad when whoever it is that has their foot stuck on the accelerator of the ever turning wheel eases it up for a few days >g< . In message , Lizzy Taylor writes

I think that for now I'm going to keep it very simple.......at least 15 minutes a day doing SOMETHING with my quilt stuff. Even if all I get done is sorting and organizing some of the chaos - well, by the end of the week I'll be further ahead than I am now. I have done this sort of thing in the past and it does help.

Our guild has an UFO challenge again this year. You fill out a form with the numbers of UFOs you want to get done in a year. At the end of the year prizes are given for the most completed, the highest percentage done, the oldest one finished, etc. Last year the winner of the oldest UFO finished had had the top done for 24 years! It was supposed to be a niece's baby quilt, then got finished for her wedding. So it's never too late to finish something. I don't think I'll sign up this year. I'm going to have joint replacement in 2 fingers of my right hand done, so don't see much quilting this summer. They straighten and pin the 1st joint of each finger, let that heal, then replace the middle joints. The 1st is less that 6 weeks with the fingers splinted, and the 2nd takes about 3 months-start to finish, Gen

I wasn't aware they did joint replacements in fingers. While it doesn't sound like fun, I sure do hope it's successful and you'll be back to quilting in no time!

Howdy!

That's plenty of challenge right there, Gen. My mom had some of that done, last year, & is ever so glad she did. Her hands move, now; she's anxious to have the other hand done, including carpal tunnel surgery.

Good luck, best wishes, and God bless.

Gen: A BIL had similar surgery a few years back and had excellent outcome. Good luck. Pat in Virginia

I really wasn't watching this thread. I'm not interested in a challenge; just plod along as the notion strikes me. I am, however, happy to report that all gators are present and accounted for. They are resting up for spring break. Won't be long until the @#$! yankees head south down the highway. The gators are always so happy to take them out for dinner. Polly
