Re: must dos and must sees in Alberta?

Hi there:

I live in Calgary too.

I like the following stores in Calgary:

Fabric Cottage Traditional Pastimes (although I can't always get someone to wait on me) Tumbleweeds (in Airdrie)

In Edmonton, the best stores are:

Cottons And More Earthly Goods, Inc.

Email me, if you want to meet me while you're here.

There's a beautiful quilt hanging in City Hall in downtown Calgary

3 shops are all within about a mile of each other. Something else to take in in Edmonton if you have the time is the West Edmonton Mall--biggest mall in North America. I wouldn't go for the shopping, but the attractions within the mall (water world with wave pools, ice arena, submarine and dolphins, amusement park, Bourbon Street with lots of restaurants) are worth seeing. I think your dates are off for most of the quilt shows. If you go to

This may be a little out of your way, but there is a great quilt shop in Cold Lake, called Quilted Gems and Other Treasures. The lady that runs it is Mrs. Miller and she is really nice. They have a beautiful selection of fabrics and fat quarters, and lots of notions. There is another one that is not so big, called the What-Not shop. It's a plumbing/quilting store. Her prices are better than Mrs. Miller's, but her selection is much smaller. If you are going to Calgary, there's not much chance youi will get as far north as Cold Lake (it's only a 7 hour drive). ;-) HTH! Michelle
