Read the Roll Call

Can not tell you how much I've enjoyed Sally's call for a roll call. Somethings I knew, some I'd forgotten. Just in case time doesn't let you read them all, be sure to read Ginger's. Wow. That's one quilter we're not going to mess with. And just in case you don't realize how big this group is including lurkers, we had close to 3,000 hits when we offered a picture of DH's quilt last spring and we didn't even offer prizes. If you haven't responded to Roll Call, please do. We love to hear from all of you. Polly

I love reading the roll call. This is an amazing group of people, with so much talent it's just unbelievable. I'm trying to express how I feel after reading all these mini autobiographies, but it's impossible without resorting to multiple exclamation marks and over-used adjectives. I'm honored to be among so many people and so much talent.

Yeehaw!!!!!!!

Just reply to one of the Roll Call posts as you normally would. That's what I did -- didn't keep the post I responded to -- that gets to be too long and it's not necessary for this type of thread :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Well I missed this Roll Call request, ( saw one a year ago) here goes anyhow. I live in Cornwall UK. Bottom left on the map .Have 5 DC. All left home now.

6DGC. The live in and around London so dont see them as often as I would like. Been married to the same Victor Meldrew ( UK joke) for 40 years. Started quilting 10 years ago after a visit to Virginia and stumbling across a lqs about to go out of business . Bought fabric ,rotary cutter ,and ruler. The rest is history as they say. I also like to paint water colours and my favorite ever thing is to dye and design fabric. I keep Chickens and Ducks. Used to have sheep but just take care of other peoples now in our field.

If you haven't

Hi Polly and All, I'm reading the group once again. I do enjoy reading the latest in Polly's World and though I may not join in very often, I am reading and sewing. I managed to get 3 tops finished so far this month and hope to finish another by Wednesday. It helps. Take care.

Polly, you are impossible to resist.

I am Paulette in WV. I live in the eastern panhandle of West By God Virginia, (for you Civil War buffs, that is right outside of Harpers Ferry place of John Brown's fame). I live in an old rennovated (mostly) farmhouse on 10 acres. I am nearly 52, have a dh of 23 years, 4 adult children, 1 dgs age 5, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 parrots (I see a trend), 2 horses, several goats, chickens and peafowl. I knit better than I quilt, but I love applique, especially in wool.

I work for Head Start (early childhood program for low income at risk children) and am fairly good at what I do there. Aside from knitting and quilting, I am a member of the SCA. I know, probably at the TMI level already.

I GREATLY enjoy lurking here. I send prayers and well wishes from afar to those who need, happy dance with those who have celebrations, and just enjoy being a part of such a wonderful group. Paulette

Hi all, I also have been lurking for many years. I got my first sewing machine when I was 7 and began making Barbie Doll clothes as I had no way of buying them. I also taught myself to crochet in my teens. I began my first quilt, a crazy quilt, when I was 13. I had no idea that little quilt (never finished) would spark a fire within. I am now 55 and can now say that I have been quilting and crocheting most of my life. My closet contains many unfinished quilts along with that first crazy quilt. Here are a few of my finiushed quilts. Happy Quilting, Sharyn in Kansas

My real name and screen name is Susan. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago where we are fortunate to have many good quilt stores. Needlework of all types has always been my passion but once the rotary cutter was introduced to the quilting world in the early 1980's quilting took the front row seat.

I love all styles of quilting and must try anything new at least once. Precise traditional piecing is my favorite but every once in a while I need to work with bold batiks. "Cute" is probably my least favorite but I will make a "cute" baby quilt as a gift.

In the past I taught quilting but my main job now is to care for my mother who came to live with us last year. I still make samples for The Quilt Merchant in Winfield, Illinois occasionally but spend most of my time making charity quilts with a goal of using most of my fabric stash before my husband decides to retire and move. You will think I am an overachiever when I report that my friend and I have made 75 throw size quilts in the last six months but you must understand that many of the throws were UFO's stacked in plastic boxes in my studio. When one teaches quilting the original quilt is completed to advertise the class and then many partial blocks are made to illustrate different steps for the class. Many of the 75 quilts started life as these class illustrations. Our goal is 125 quilts by the end of this year. Yes, I plan to post photographs eventually.

My bachelor sons are now 28 and 32 so pretty well take care of themselves. We haven't had pets since the boys were in grade school. My husband is well trained so he can also take care of himself leaving me with plenty of time to quilt.

I might just be near the last to report.

Been with RCTQ a looong time. Read every day but post seldom.

Originally from Ohio, also one of the narrow minded towns but with narrow roads. Lived in Florida since 1978. Married 53 years in June to the same DH. Two sons 52 & nearing 50. No QI's but one grand-dog. DS's and dog all live far away. Belong to a large quilt guild and a small Circle. Just "retired" as leader after nearly 10 years. Enjoying reitrement. Have 6 sewing machines and use three mostly. Do lots of traditional and charity projects and a few more arty pieces.

I'm Judy from Mass - don't sew as much as I'd like. Been dealing with small cell lung cancer for over a year, treating with chemotherapy.I feel okay! So far so good, but the chemo's aren't working very well. I'm still working part time (I always worked part time) as an usher at a sports arena - a fun job! I've seen every concert I've ever imagined and then some!

Married 32 yrs this summer. I have two kids, adults, both PITA's! My DS 27 lives with us with his girlfriend. My DD lives with her boyfriend. Neither plan on having kids so there's another dream up in smoke! I'd love a grand baby, but if they're not ready it's just as well.

My projects in the works - and in my mind - are quilts for my BFF's - a Sunbonnet Sue, a cat / reading and a Scot, as yet unplanned. And my dream quilt a lone star that I've wanted forever. Wish me luck - I get afraid to start something because I get tired and I'm afraid I'll screw it up!

I have a stash that will last forever and yet I manage to find more to buy!

Wow. I love the Harbor Stars quilt. Looks like a great pattern to use for a wounded military quilt. My enthusiasm for a quilt block wanes when doing the same old thing over and over - but with that one, every block could be different. Polly
