REPOST OT need help finding a logo, please

I need a Spunky Lady logo to go on the care/information sheets that will be included with each item that I make. I am not good at internet searches, so I'm asking for your help. I have something in mind like the Maxine comic strip character-

formatting link
I especially like the one for Oct. 17- you can click on the calendar on that page to see it. The 'spunky lady' can be any age, but I rather think I'll prefer middle aged to older. It doesn't have to be the entire body, altho I think I would prefer that, too.

Here's the rules:

  1. MUST be material that is NOT copyrighted!!! No exceptions there. VBG

  1. Must be a line type drawing- like a cartoon- that I can print out on my very basic computer equipment in black and white.

  2. Prefer the 'spunky lady' to be holding a handbag- a handbag with a shoulder strap would be even better

  1. The figure would be best if it were 4-6 inches tall when printed out, but I can work around that a bit.

We don't want to clog up the ng with replies, so *please* email a link to your entry to me at quilteacher at yahoo dot com- please put 'contest' or 'spunky lady' in the subject line, since I get lots of spam at that addy.

Entries are open for a week, until Oct. 15. The logo that I choose will get the person who found it their choice of any ONE Spunky Lady Creation. I will ship the prize anywhere, so anybody can try to find the perfect logo for me.

Let's find a spunky lady!

Are you lookin' for one to be designed or found on the 'net?

I'm askin' because I'm not sure if ya'll can find one that runs no risk of bein' under copyright. Also, bear in mind, that if you DO find a copyright-free image/illustration on the 'net and decide to use it, you can't copyright it, either (which I really would suggest if you're using it for business use).

Your best bet would be to find a kid who draws well and tell'im what you want. It would be cheap, cheap, and copyright free. Otherwise, you'll always run the risk of someone either comin' out of the woodwork claimin' infringment or someone else copyin' your logo.

I don't know much on this subject, but I have bought books that clearly state that the images are copyright free and you can you them in any way you want- I thought stuff like that was available on the 'net, too. I cannot afford to even hire a kid- I'm spending well over $200 in materials for the handbags that I'm donating to my church. Thank goodness the vast bulk of it is from my stash, but I still paid for that stuff somewhere in the past. This 'image' is just something to put on the care instruction sheet. Thanks for the info. I really don't know where to go from here..... I'm a lost lil ol' spunky lady whose back and neck are *killing* her from 10-14 hr. days at the sm making handbags.

How about taking a picture of yourself and seeing if you can reduce it down in a photo program to where you can trace the important lines to make your own spunky lady? I don't think I explained it correctly. What you need is a caricature of yourself. Like the guys at the street fairs that will draw you for $5! You can never find one when you need one!

Leslie, Have you considered a barter? Maybe a talented local woman or teen will donate a logo design in return for pick of the litter of those bags!

Another option to consider: rubber stamps - there are many online catalogues available for viewing and you might see something that you like. Is there someone in the congregation who can draw a cartoon for you? What about a photo of Missy to be the basis of your character - she seems to have lots more spunk than a lot of people - put a sunbonnet on her and a bag in her mouth and let her model for you... jennellh

That's a sweet thought to use Missy's photo, but she has a HUGE cancerous tumor on her face/muzzle. (tearing up again)

Can you clone the cancer out of Missy's face with digital imaging. Or take a picture of her good side. Shirley

Well ... you can, but it's not always a guarantee. Anyone can say ANYTHING on the 'net (and they usually do). And people often perpetuate copyright infringement without even knowing. Sandra gets "Image A" from the net assuming that it's copyright free, posts it on her site (proclaiming that it's copyright free), so Danny gets it from HER site and puts it on his, and so on. After a while, no one (except the original copyright holder) knows if it's copyright free or not.

But if the original holder sees it, whoever has it at the time is probably the one he'll go after.

I figured as much - I was sure that you're doing this for non-profit purposes. But your bags are cool enough that you ought to at least think about selling the patterns. :-) I know I'd buy'em! :-)

And if you DO decide to sell'em, you should have a cute logo to go with. :-)

Want me to do it? I'm a professional illustrator and I can easily give you something like Maxine (but not close enough to violate copyrights, of course).

Remember when you brainstormed for me a while back (which I'm STILL using, thank-you-very-much)? This could be a way of me paying you back. :-)

Unless, of course, someone else offers and you'd rather use them ... I don't want to put you on the spot. :-)

Connie-

You have every right to enter the contest, but just like everyone, all you'll get is your choice of one of my handbag projects in payment. AND I may go ahead with selling them on my own if they sell well at the craft fair. So this may turn into a for-profit project at some point. I don't think I'll go with selling the patterns since that involves too many other people I'd have to arrange and keep up with- like printers, distributors, etc. I'd just have a website and sell the bags.... *IF* it works out.

Glad you found some use for my mental meanderings! VBG

Leslie, I think we have a teeny-tiny bit of a disconnect here ... IF you like what I come up with you owe me NADA. Remember a few months back where I BEGGED you to at least let me name a pattern/label collection after you and you so heartlessly refused?? Well, IF you accept my illustration, we'll consider a debt repaid, okay? :)

The only thing I ask is that if the eyes are too far apart or the finger not quite right, you tell me what to fix to make it PERFECT.

Deal? Or do I have to start nagging???

You do NOT want to go there ... I am the Queen of Nagging. Just ask my kids. :-)

As for selling'em, I think you should. But I think you should go for the upscale market. To be blunt, I've seen bags not even NEAR as gorgeous as yours and not even a scintillia as clever going for $400 a pop.

I'm not saying go that high (I don't think you could bring yourself to ask that - you're pretty durned selfless and modest), but I think you should seriously re-evaluate your pricing before selling them. :-)

Whoops! You need to fix your spell-checker ... you misspelled "Brilliant Ideas!!"

HTH! :-)
