Ronald McDonald Houses

A new Ronald McDonald House is being built near our local hospital. We haven't had a local one before. The nearest was in Chicago at a big university hospital. Have any of you ever been involved with a Ronald McDonald House? Do you know if they accept quilts for use at the house or keep them on hand to give to the families? I will contact the organization directly but just wondered if anyone here has worked with them before. The house will not be open until 2015 so we have time to plan.

I belong to a quilt guild (Block Party Quilters in Bellevue, Washington) that donates quilts to RMcHouse all the time. They are extremely happy to get them. If you like I can put you in touch with the Ronald McDonald House Committee chair. She'll be able to answer questions about our local house. Our Ronald McDonald House is partnered with Seattle Children's Hospital and University of Washington. They are very happy to receive the quilts and we get thank you letters via the house from families that the quilts are very important. I do know that the patient gets to choose his/her own quilt from the stockpile. Donna in Bellevue

Our local Ronald McDonald House gives a quilt (or fleece blanket) to each sick child that stays there, so they can use quilts for all ages -- tiny baby through teenagers. They also have quilts (throws, I think) in each room for the families to use while they are staying there. They used to have quilts on each bed, but no longer do that. I suspect it was too hard to get that many big quilts donated. The houses are wonderful places and their services are much appreciated by the families that stay there.

Thanks for your information. It will be at least a year before construction begins as they must raise a lot of money in addition to what Ronald McDonald Charities will be giving them.
